Highlights
  • Knik Glacier Tours - This is a classic Alaskan tour and great for those who want to learn more about hiking and packrafting in Alaska. Hiking and paddling are two activities that go well together with the use of ingenuities pack rafts. Our hiking route will follow the braided Knik River up to the glacier’s terminus and lake. On our hike we will have an open view of the mountains that surround Knik Valley. It is common to see Moose, Black bears, and Dall Sheep. The braided river provides us with a natural route that will include low level river crossings and very little bushwhacking. Braided rivers are often preferred features for hiking and trekking off trail in Alaska because of their open views and relatively flat and easy terrain.
Pack rafts are incredible boats that are great for both floating flat water and paddling white water. They are small and packable for the hiking portion of the trip and you will receive instruction on how to assemble and maneuver your boat as we float around the lake. Safety is our first priority and you will be given a safety talk with rules for safely observing the ice and paddling the river. The river is rated beginner, Class I/II. This is a classic Alaskan adventure!

Additional Information

An Alaskan Adventure is a timeless classic. The unique sport of packrafting, which has its roots in Alaska, will be introduced in this tour, granting you a glimpse into how these adaptable boats interact with Alaska’s terrain. Nestled just around the corner from Anchorage is the Knik valley, the site of the Knik Glacier and River. Our expedition includes a trek along the intertwined Knik River leading to the end-point of the Knik Glacier. Here, we’ll pause for a meal before inflating our packrafts and readying our equipment for a sail around the lake at the glacier’s end-point. This will provide the opportunity to see icebergs up-close and to deepen our understanding of glacier science. After our leisurely exploration and practising our rowing techniques, we’ll navigate the Knik River back to the launching pad of our adventure.

The trip can be reserved as a private event for a group of at least four people. The tour can also be personalized to extend over more days and include camping as well. For more information on tailoring a tour to your needs, please get in touch with us.
