Highlights
  • Palmela - Currently known for being part of the wine region of the Peninsula of Setubal, this old Moorish city is a beautiful attraction mainly because of its whitewashed houses. It’s splendor is also dominated by the strategic medieval castle situated on its highest hill. It was conquered by first king of Portugal in 1147 and given to the Military Order of Santiago de Espada. Additional Information

Spectacular sceneries and robust tastes abound in this largely unspoilt zone notable for its velvety cheeses and renowned wines. The adventure initiates in Palmela, with a visit to its castle perched high above, offering an awe-inspiring view. Moving on, Azeitao awaits, nestled within the heart of Arrabida Natural Park, surrounded by olive trees, vineyards and cork oaks. Indulge in the renowned Azeitao’s Pies and cheeses, and embark on a tour of the historic José Maria da Fonseca or Bacalhoa Cellars that craft the Periquita, Moscatel and 40 other local wine brands. Following the Azeitao visit, the journey extends to Sesimbra, a picturesque fisherman’s hamlet, marked by enchanting cobblestone streets and lanes. The highlight of the trip, however, is the traverse along Serra of Arrabida, where the mountain’s greenery and the ocean’s blue create an enchanting visual concert. Our final destination will be Setubal, caressed by the unique Sado River, the only Portuguese river that flows south to north. In the distance, one can observe the splendid Troia beach.
