Additional Information

Situated about an hour’s journey from the town of Palenque is Roberto Barrios. This is one of our latest tour offerings, where you get a chance to explore lands once under the control of the EZLN (Zapatista Army of National Liberation), which is now a community dedicated to eco-tourism, characterized by a natural bath whose colors range from turquoise blue to emerald green. These color variations result from the sun’s reflection on the limestone floor, with the waters originating from a branch of the Tulija river. The area encapsulates 6 distinctive swimming zones within the jungle, each with its unique charm. Some boast towering waterfalls for thrill-seekers to leap from, while others offer tranquil infinity pools. The locale is abundant with natural slides, caves for exploration, and waterfalls that provide a natural shower.

Beautiful Waterfalls! - Beautiful waterfalls! Not too far from Palenque and not overly crowded. Several tour companies at the bus terminal run tours for 300 pesos a person.

Waste of money - We paid 750 pesos each for what was advertised locally at 300 pesos. We also didn't get what we paid for at all. First of all, the collectivo arrived 11:15 instead of 12, catching us unprepared and rushed. The ticket clearly states that we pay for an English speaking local tour guide. Then there was no guide and the driver didn't speak english either. Which makes sense since there are no guides for those waterfalls needed, so the advertisment is completely wrong. The entry cost of roberto barrios is 20 pesos and the price for a collectivo for a 50 min ride and back shouldn't exceed 50 pesos per person, and I'm being generous. The collectivo then took us all back at 3:20, so we stayed for 3 hours instead of the 5 advertised. He dropped us off temporarily at a gas station where we had to wait for 30 minutes for everyone to get a different collectivo to get them back to their hotels. Without understanding the situation fully as, as stated, the driver didn't speak english. We rightfully requested a refund but were denied one as Viator believe what we experienced was in-line with what was advertised. Do not recommend, just get a collectivo or even a taxi to the waterfalls rather than waste your money!
