Highlights
  • The Rock Adventure Cruise - After getting picked up at 8:15 am at the Paihia Wharf by sea shuttle,go on a smooth cruise to a remote and quiet bay where the main boat is anchored.

After arrival and a quick safety brief, haul the anchor and get ready to explore the islands.

Prepare for activities like Kayaking, snorkelling, gathering fresh sea food, exploring WWII remains, trekking across islands enjoying stunning vantage points and visiting ancient Maori fortifications. If conditions allow, gather mussels from the kelp-covered outer reefs to enjoy on the way home (along with the unique experience of eating sea urchins raw if you’re brave enough).

Get some time to enjoy the remote beaches, perfect for a game of beach cricket or volley ball.

On the homeward cruise, enjoy those mussels, freshly steamed, and watch out for the abundant marine and bird life…hopefully even see dolphins! Arrival back at Paihia wharf is approximately at 3pm.

Excellent All Round - We spent today with John and his crew and had an awesome day. Loved the boat (The Rock), loved the crew, loved the snorkeling, loved the kayaking, loved the food and the beer was cold. If you haven’t gathered yet, we loved it

Fantastic fun day cruise - We got a bit of a shock when we arrived (2 couples)as we were so old compared with every one else but we were enthusiastically welcomed and had a great day. Wasn't going to snorkel as thought too cold but with a wet suit was fine. My 70 year old husband and I kayaked and our friends also. We had a go at the paddle boarding which was more than most of the younger ones, great fun.Perfect weather, great scenery, excellent crew, good food and company, what more could you want. Good value for money and made us feel young again.

Amazing day cruise - will definitely return - My partner and I are on our way back to Auckland after a great trip on board The Rock! We were in Paihia for a special anniversary and decided to book the day cruise with lunch and we weren't disappointed... We went snorkelling, kayaking and had a great hike in between. The staff were very friendly and we thought it was excellent value. We will definitely return the next time we have visitors and probably do the overnight trip!

Brilliant Day ! - What a great day it was and that was even before the dolphins came to play ! Pete and his “deckie” OJ picked us up at Paihia and gave us a fantastic little water taxi trip across the bay to meet the RockBoat , giving us lots of local info . Then to RocktheBoat . This day exceeded all our expectations . Nick and his crew were superb , welcoming , friendly , all so easy to chat with , generously sharing their experiences . This trip was as leisurely and relaxing as you wished it to be with lots of lovely island coastal scenery but it also gave you the opportunities for Great snorkelling , kayaking and a beautiful little cove to relax/play on . Boat facilities were good as was the food and refreshments . Would do all this again , just for the above , a great day . Then with just 20 minutes before we were due to go ...the dolphins turned up to play . Our captain Nick said “ we are staying , we are going nowhere “. And so we stayed for an extra hour with the dolphins Swimming around us , through us , beneath us , jumping ,splashing . They were showing off and they did it so very well . Unbelievable ! This is why this is the best trip we have ever been on , and we are 55 and have travelled a bit . And having listened to those who had done the over nighter , we will do that next time we are back in NewZealand . Thank you to Nick and his team for such a memorable trip.

Awesome day of adventure - The adventure day cruise delivered everything it promised--a relaxing day around the islands, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, delicious lunch, and an amazing crew. The boat is not fancy but everything is clean and in proper working order. The whole crew is super nice and attentive. Sure, you could pay double or triple for a ride on a fancier boat but you will still get the same views we did. I highly recommend this boat and the crew to anyone wishing to spend a relaxing day around the islands. I would do definitely go again.

Fun and friendly! - The crew on The Rock are so friendly! The boat is an old ferry and has a lot of character. I’m sure there are plenty of other positive reviews, so I’ll say what caught my eye. We were lucky enough to snorkel for and eat urchins; kayak in a beautiful, secluded beach area; listen to the crew give some history about the islands at the top of a brief hike; spot some dolphins; and even eat some fresh caught fish. The tour has nice personal feel, something I don’t think the other companies in the area can claim. If you’re looking for a good way to see the bay, go with The Rock!

Waste of time and money - My partner and I were really excited for this tour as snorkelling and 'island hopping' were two things we really wanted to do. The crew were friendly enough.. but the childish "warm ups" were totally unnecessary for a boat full of adults. We were taken to one fairly average snorkel spot with very few fish and then taken to one island- which was beautiful for about 15 minutes until a whole load of other boats turned up. We then spent about 1.5 hours on the island which was longer than necessary- could've gone to a second, less busy, island in that time... We were then served lunch- which we were so ready for and it was totally average... And after that, it was a 2 hour trip back to Paihia (out of our 6 hour day), which was pretty awful and definitely a waste of time. Overall a very average trip- not worth what we paid and a bit of a waste of time
