Worth the experience, easy to follow, delicious recipes - This class was a lot of fun and efficient/well-oiled. We started by visiting the market, and we were able to ask any questions we wanted. Gift was very knowledgeable in her responses. We then strolled through the garden and I learned a lot about the herbs and plants used in Thai cooking (and that we would use right after). The cooking class itself was easy to follow and everything flowed logically. The ingredients were pre-portioned and well-organized. I don't cook regularly and I don't typically enjoy cooking, but this class only had the fun parts. I'm glad I tried out this experience!

Thank you Gift! - A very good time at Siam Garden. Very friendly staff, especially our chef Gift. The setting is very pleasant, small private garden with explanations of the different plants and herbs. We were in a small group of 8, it was just perfect. I recommend.

A comprehensive and delicious Thai cooking class - This class was so informative and so much fun! As a female, solo traveler I felt extremely comfortable. What follows is a fairly detailed description of the morning half day class: I was picked up from my hotel on time (they notified me of the time of pickup the night before, and reconfirmed the morning of the class). They transported us in a songthaew (standard Chiang Mai-style “taxi”- red, pickup truck w/benches in the covered bed) which was fun and a great opportunity to meet and chat with some of the other students. The driver took us to a covered market where we met up with more students and our guide/instructor named, Gift. Gift was absolutely lovely and spoke English very well. She took us into the market and showed us several different fruits, vegetables and other Thai food ingredients that you can get at the market. She also told us what we might use back in our home countries for an ingredient that is usually only available there. She explained what to look for in terms of how to pick the best/ripest items and how to determine freshness and taste. We had a little free time to look around the market and take pictures of anything that we wanted to question her about. Instead a couple of other students and I wandered around, sharing and sampling the local fruits and treats! Including amazingly fresh mangoes, dragon fruit, and a red-apple like fruit called “chom-poo” - rose apples. Our next and final stop was the cooking school/garden. After checking us in and providing each of us with and apron and a straw cowboy hat, they took us around their stunning garden and explained about all the flowers, herbs, and plants that they use for ingredients in their food. Then… it was time to cook!! I won’t be giving away their cooking secrets here so don’t look for them, but I will tell you that they do most of the prep work for you. This was fine with me because it gave us the opportunity to complete more dishes, and we received a digital copy of a recipe book with all the dishes in it at the end of the class so I didn’t feel like I missed anything. Prior to the class the school contacts you to ask you which six dishes you want to make. This defines what you will be cooking and it feels super hard to make your selections because they are all delicious things. It doesn’t end up feeling this way after all because you see plenty of how to make everything you didn’t pick due to the way the cooking stations are set up. You also get to dictate how spicy, or in my case how not spicy- but definitely not bland despite the total lack of spice- your dishes are! The cooking area is huge and the setup is beautiful, airy, and very pleasant. I had a wonderful time cooking, laughing with the instructors and the other students, and most of all chatting while eating what we made while lounging on cushions at low tables in their cozy dining room. I would highly recommend this class to who wants to reproduce the tasty Thai food they ate while on vacation in Northern Thailand. Gift and her fellow instructor chefs were such a joy to be around and every dish they walked us through was incredibly delicious - and so easy to make!! It left me feeling very confident about being able to replicate these recipes back at home. I hope you pick this wonderful garden and school for your Thai cooking class experience. You will have an informative, fun, and very delicious time!

Beginner class with good cross-section of Thai dishes - This was a fun class that skewed more to beginners, but was an excellent way to learn more about Thai dishes and flavors. We enjoyed the visit to the beautiful, clean market and the class itself ran like a well-oiled machine! Very efficient and kind staff made the whole things go very smoothly and the meal we enjoyed as the fruits of our labour was spectacular. Appreciate the recipe book download and all of the ingredient substitution suggestions for when we return home.
