Day out in Krakow - Good guide, very emotional day. I wouldn’t say it was enjoyable , it was informative, just seeing the vast size, hearing the awful things at the camps was horrific but it’s something I’m glad I’ve done. The mines however were amazing, the sheer size is impressive, again the guide was good and we had a good time.

Great experience but physically and emotionally draining - We chose to do the combination tour of the Salt Mines and Auschwitz Birkenau as we were only in Krackow for a couple of days. We had been warned by family and friends who have been that there is a lot of walking - but there really is a LOT of walking and sometimes at quite a pace, (also note there are regular opportunities to use a bathroom - but take advantage when offered!). At the end of the day we had done 26,500 steps just to give you an idea. Doing both in one day is TOUGH, especially in the heat! But if you are limited for time, it is great value and you really feel like you have had a huge range of experiences. Our tour provider sent us a detailed WhatsApp the day before and confirmed our pickup time, which was a bit later than we thought it would be at 9am. We were on a full bus (30 people) but although that sounds like a big group, it was actually fine. The bus was comfy and our guide/driver Thomas was an excellent driver and very informative, but mostly ran a tight ship and the timings were spot on! At the Salt Mines we were handed over to an official guide (we had headsets as she narrated the tour) It was all extremely efficient and ran like a well-oiled machine. There are a lot of steps going down but you do get a lift back up! There are benches at regular points along the way where you stop and listen to info (you will only get to sit for a couple of minutes but is enough for anyone who needs a rest!) There are also a couple of points where you get a 10 min break to grab a drink or a snack or go to the bathroom. As far as the mines themselves are concerned - they are spectacular. The cathedral and the various caves and learning about the history is done in a variety of interesting and informative ways. We had ordered a lunch box for 40 zloty which turned out to be an excellent decision and we thought excellent quality. We had time after the salt mines to grab an ice cream (highly recommend from the kiosk outside!) and then we were given our packed lunch as we got on the bus - we had a ham & cheese bread roll (also had cucumber, pepper and red onion on it). The roll was delicious and a good size - our request for one without mayo or butter was also excellent. In our packed lunch we also had a banana, an apple, a chocolate croissant (in a packet), a large packet of chocolate wafer biscuits and a bottle of water. We thought it was excellent value. We then went to Auschwitz - here our group was split in two so each group of 15 went with a different guide. Again, a lot of walking, (but no places to sit for anyone with mobility issues, so please be aware of this). Again, we had headsets so the guide could communicate effectively and that meant that although we saw a lot of other groups there was not a lot of 'noise'. The guide, the information, the route was all very efficient. It was, as you can imagine, incredibly moving and at times overwhelming. After this tour you return to the coach for a 5 minute journey to Birkenau - please note this is all outside and the terrain is uneven. This again is an emotional experience. I was asked if I would recommend it and was I glad I went- this is difficult to answer - but on reflection, I would say it was physically and emotionally exhausting and I feel that by going I have paid my respects to those who underwent such horrors and were so horrendously murdered - and in the present climate of denial it is important to remember. I would definitely recommend the company Choose Cracow.

Excellent Day and Exceptionally Well Organised - We went to the Salt Mines, Auschwitz and Berkenhau in one day. It was a long day, we were picked up at 7.15am at our hotel and we're dropped back off at 6.00pm. The day was absolutely fantastic. We have 2 boys, aged 14 and 11 and both enjoyed the day too (they loved the salt mines). Our tour guides and trip organiser (Julie) were great and very informative. Everything was exceptionally well organised and very clear. We did walk c25k steps in the day, so there is a lot of walking. However, this certainly did not detract from what an amazing day we had. I would certainly book through Viator again. Their communication and organisation was excellent. Thanks for an amazing trip!

Great tours with lots of interesting information and lots of walking. - The trip was well timed to beat the crowds and Julia very helpful. The bus was very comfortable and we appreciated the pick up close to our accommodation. Both tours were fantastic and tour guides were very informative. It is a full day with lots of walking but the bus journey between the two leaves time for adequate rest. If your only in Krakow a short time I recommend you do both of these in a day.

Sad but worth seeing. Salt Mines Ace - Got picked up at 9am by Thomas, great driver, well organised funny guy, highly recommend him. The tour guys were brilliant very informative and very clear English thank god, my Polish is non existent. Got back to hotel at 9pm, brilliant day well worth seeing first hand what went on. Lunch well worth the money. Take an umbrella if you go in May its bloody hot especially outside at Birkenau. Salt mines at village-car, thats how the guide got us to remember the name 😁 great place to see, lots of walking.

The organisation of the... - The organisation of the day was well planned - Thomas is a great assest to the tour. The packed lunch was worth the 40pln as there is not many places to get food from. The price of this tour was a lot cheaper than other providers. We had a really enjoyable day and would recommend. It is a long day however better to do both in the day when not staying for long. Thanks again!
