- Phnom Udong - Guests will be picked up from their Phnom Penh hotel at approximately 8 am and transported to Oudong. This historic capital from the later period of the Khmer Empire, where kings were crowned, is situated atop two parallel ridges 40 km north of Phnom Penh. Oudong served as the capital of the Khmer Empire from the 17th century until 1866, when it was relocated to Phnom Penh. The ridgeline is dotted with several temples and religious structures, and stupas containing the remains of notable Khmer Kings such as King Monivong and King Ang Duong. These hills were also the site of some of the Khmer Rouge’s most prolonged resistance against the advancing Vietnamese army in 1979. The summit of Phnom Oudong offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and is a popular picnic spot for Phnom Penh residents. Visitors will stroll through these historical buildings before meeting one of the monks.
- Oudong Temple - The highlight of this half-day tour (mornings only) is receiving a personal blessing from the monks, who will perform a traditional ceremony by sprinkling water and flowers while chanting for about 5 to 10 minutes. This traditional Khmer blessing ceremony is believed to cleanse past evil spirits and bring good luck for the coming year. Participants will feel surprisingly renewed and relaxed after this unforgettable experience. Following the blessing ceremony, guests will receive a small string for their wrist from the monks. Wearers of this sacred thread should keep it on until it naturally falls off to maximize its positive effect on one’s fortune.
To fully absorb the experience, a Khmer set lunch is offered at a local restaurant before returning to Phnom Penh. Guests will arrive at their booked hotel at around 1:30 pm.
