Additional Information

We offer a dance experience. Let’s enjoy dancing together.
The dance that we offered was Bon Odori. There are many kinds of Bon-odori, but we offer Osaka folk dance. Bon dance is a traditional Japanese folk dance. Today we dance with CD music. Bon-Odori is a modern version of Furyu Odori, which has been certified as a World Heritage Site.

The Bon-Odori is more rhythmical and more creative than the Furyu Odori. Everyone dances in a circle. Skilled dancers can arrange the steps, while beginners can follow the dance of the person in front of them. Each person dances in their style and at their level in the circle. Thus you can soak into a sense of sync as a whole, giving them a special sense of exhilaration.

Learning the Bon dance - I felt that Bon Odori was completely different from Maiko's indoor dances and Noh. When I actually learned how to dance, I felt that my body moved naturally and rhythmically. I still see it being danced at summer festivals, but when I actually danced it, it felt like an hour and a half had passed in the blink of an eye.We started dancing in a circle and learned three types of dances, each of which was different, and it was fun to learn the different things. Next time I have a chance to go, I plan to bring my friends as well.

Such a great experience. - We had a wonderful time. We were welcomed by very lovely people. We were treated to a live shamisen performance and invited to play the instruments (which my husband and sons loved). We then learned the dance. We were worried about our dancing skills but by the end of class we all managed to pick up the dance. It was so much fun. Everyone enjoyed this class a lot. We highly recommend taking part in this class. It was a great experience.

A favourite memory! - So much fun! The people running the class were amazing. They are very kind and knowledgeable. They gave us easy to follow directions to get there which was so helpful. We actually got there early and we were treated to live shamisen (which was amazing). They even let us try the instruments. The dancing seemed a little intimidating at first but they were very patient and made it fun. We did manage to pick up the dance (even those who don't normally dance). It was such a nice cultural experience. We are so grateful they allowed us to participate in it. This is a great activity for any age. My family and I enjoyed this class so much and we walked away with great memories from it. I highly recommend it.
