Riding the Waves of Adventure: My Aruba Safari Experience
When the call of adventure beckoned, I couldn’t resist the allure of the Aruba Safari. With promises of off-road thrills and hidden island gems, I knew this was a journey I had to experience firsthand.
The Thrill of the Ride
As someone who has spent countless hours riding the waves, I thought I knew what it meant to feel the rush of adrenaline. But the Aruba Safari was a different kind of thrill altogether. The day began with a warm welcome from our guide, Ivo, who met us right at the cruise terminal. After a quick stop at the ABC Tours office to sort out some paperwork and lunch orders, we were off on our adventure.
The Land Rovers used for the tour were rugged and ready for the off-road challenges ahead. With two rows of bench seating facing each other, the setup was perfect for sharing the experience with fellow adventurers. Ivo, our tour captain, led the way, and his enthusiasm was infectious. As we bounced and tilted over rocky terrain, Ivo’s assurance that “these are Land Rovers, not Roll Overs” kept us all at ease. His knowledge of the island and its history added depth to the journey, making each stop more than just a photo opportunity.
Hidden Gems and Natural Wonders
Our first stop was the Natural Bridge, a site that had once been a grand arch before its collapse. Ivo took us to a vantage point that offered stunning views, a detour that wasn’t on the itinerary but was much appreciated. The day was filled with such surprises, including a visit to the oldest church in Aruba and the ruins of an old gold refinery. Each location was a window into Aruba’s past, with Ivo providing just the right amount of historical context.
Lunch was a delightful surprise, far exceeding my expectations of a simple box meal. Instead, we enjoyed a full restaurant experience with delicious food and refreshing drinks. It was the perfect break before diving into the afternoon’s activities.
Sun, Sand, and Snorkeling
The afternoon promised a change of pace with the allure of swimming and snorkeling. Ivo’s announcement of “swim, swim, swim!” was music to my ears. We made our way to the Natural Pool, a secluded spot protected by volcanic rocks. Although the waves were too rough for a safe swim, Ivo’s quick decision to move us to another beach ensured our safety and continued enjoyment.
The day was capped off with a visit to Baby Beach, where the snorkeling was nothing short of spectacular. Ivo’s knack for finding the best spots and his thoughtful touches, like providing bread to attract fish, made the experience unforgettable. As we sipped on cold local beers at the end of the day, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey we’d just had. The Aruba Safari was more than just a tour; it was an adventure that captured the essence of island life and left me with memories to cherish.
