A Serendipitous Start

The morning sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over Oranjestad as I made my way to the port, eager for a day of diving in Aruba’s renowned waters. As a marine biologist, the allure of exploring vibrant coral reefs and the mysteries they hold is a call I can never resist. However, my plans took an unexpected turn when the dive company I had booked with failed to show up. Standing at the port, I felt a mix of disappointment and frustration, wondering if my day of underwater exploration was slipping away.

Just as I was about to give up hope, a friendly face appeared. A driver from Pure Diving Aruba, who was there to pick up other divers, noticed my predicament. She kindly offered her assistance, lending me her phone to try and contact the missing dive company. Despite her own schedule, she returned to check on me, offering a spot on their dive trip when it became clear I had been left behind. Her genuine concern and willingness to help a stranded diver were a testament to the spirit of camaraderie that often exists within the diving community.

Diving into the Depths

With my gear in tow, I joined the group of divers aboard the charming Drumfish, Pure Diving Aruba’s trusty vessel. The atmosphere was relaxed yet professional, with the crew emphasizing safety and ensuring everyone was comfortable with their equipment. As we set off towards the southern side of the island, I felt a sense of anticipation building. The promise of exploring Aruba’s beautiful and healthy reefs was finally within reach.

The second dive took us to a site known for its intriguing wrecks. Descending into the depths, we explored the remnants of a sunken airplane, now a thriving artificial reef. As we returned to the port, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s events. What began as a potential disappointment had transformed into an unforgettable adventure, thanks to the kindness and professionalism of Pure Diving Aruba. Despite the initial hiccup, the day had been a success, filled with breathtaking underwater vistas and the thrill of discovery.

While the location near a refuse dump was less than ideal, with occasional unpleasant odors when the wind shifted, it was a minor inconvenience in an otherwise perfect day. The dive crew’s dedication to providing a top-notch experience shone through, from their well-maintained equipment to their clean and comfortable boat.

For anyone considering a dive in Aruba, I wholeheartedly recommend this dive experience.
