• Availability: 26 days Sundays per year available over summer
• Times: One trip per day at 9.30am
• Transport: Self drive is recommended or Free transport from Rotorua can be provided. We will pick you up from your accommodation at 8:30am in Rotorua, and you will return by 2pm.
• What to bring: Sense of adventure, swimwear & a towel.
• What we provide: Custom built rafts, wetsuits, helmets, lifejackets, paddles, fleece tops, wetsuit booties and splash jackets.
• Location: The river is located just outside Tauranga at - 1378 State Highway 29, 20 minutes drive from Tauranga or 1 hour drive from Rotorua.
• Conditions: 13+ years only.
• Fitness Level: A reasonable fitness level is required as this is a challenging river & and you must be able to swim.

Engage in a thrilling rafting journey on the powerful Wairoa River, an experience that promises to be memorable! The Grade 5 Wairoa River near Tauranga is famous for its superb white water activities in New Zealand.
Kaituna Cascades takes you through the entire span of the river, including the lower three rapids and the waterfall!
Brace yourself as you navigate ‘Mothers Nightmare’, a technically challenging grade 4+ rock garden that concludes with an engaging 2 meter waterfall.
Dare to ride ‘The Rollercoaster’ - a long, bountiful staircase of fantastic white water bound to elicit laughter from even the sternest individuals!
Experience the exhilaration of ‘The Waterfall’, with its thrilling 3 meter plunge into a swirling pool of white water. Afterwards, relax and relish the subsequent 4km of entertaining grade 3/4 rapids and waterfalls as you navigate through the rock canyon laden with boulders on the Wairoa River - the adventure concludes with an enticing 5 meter cliff jump for those daring enough.

Awesome rafting on the Wairoa!!! - Researched the different places to raft in New Zealand before deciding on this one and it did not disappoint!! Definitely one of the best places to raft. We felt very fortunate to be able to raft this river as it is only available 26 days each year. The rapid is very technical so lots of instructions from our guides (draw, back paddle, jump left/right, hold on, get down) and lots 2-3M waterfalls. Because it is not rafted too often you never know what is going to happen…we went down one rapid backwards and got stuck once or twice but our awesome raft guides Ollie and Cole were under control and kept us safe. Exciting and technically challenging this trip kept a huge smile on my face the whole way down the river!

Would recommend this company to anyone - Brilliant. Would highly recommend this company. The staff were fun, safety conscious and experienced. Beautiful trip on the river. Stunning even on a rainy day like we went. In fact the water was warm.

Professional, great fun, exciting, a must do while in the area. - This trip was the best, from start to finish we had so much fun! My husband and I are 70 years old, so anyone can do it! Thanks to the staff for giving us a great time, we will always remember it. The river is spectacular.

Brilliant Adventure - What a brilliant experience with a very professional guide! We were greeted by a friendly team and demonstrations were thoroughly explained with safety highlighted. The waterfalls were epic and we had a lot of fun, Thank you!

Just do it ! - From the start of meeting our guides to completing our rafting experience l felt in professional hands, knowing the rapids from the videos and speaking with the guides beforehand, answered all my concerns, it was quiet a adrenaline rush, to say the least!! But being seated at the back with the guide made all the difference, great coaching , and execution of drills kept me safe in the boat even when under the falls.. thanks Malcom , and all the staff , and my partner for a great end to my NZ holiday

Really a fantastic raft, and felt so safe!

Great 1st time rafting experience! - First time rafting but great experience! Great coach, wonderfull river and great adventure! I can only recommend this to anybody! As this is the largest waterfall in the world commercially being rafted on it will be challenging to exceed the greatness of this experience!
