Cusco to Aguas Calientes

Ollantaytambo - The adventure begins in Cusco, the historic heart of the Inca Empire, where ancient Incan foundations harmonize with Spanish colonial architecture. Departing early, travelers will journey through stunning Andean landscapes towards the Sacred Valley. Upon reaching Ollantaytambo, they will encounter its remarkable stone ruins, a lasting symbol of its ancient cultural and strategic significance.

Chachabamba - After a brief photo opportunity in Ollantaytambo, travelers will board the train to KM 104, enjoying panoramic views of the Urubamba River and the breathtaking surrounding landscapes. Upon arrival at KM 104, a quieter starting point of the Inca Trail, the hike begins towards the lesser-known Chachabamba ruins, an archaeological site with well-preserved stone structures situated at 2,250 meters above sea level.

Winay Wayna - From Chachabamba, travelers will ascend steep Incan stairways through a tropical cloud forest rich with orchids, ferns, and birds. The climb leads to Wiñay Wayna, a notable Incan site named “Forever Young” in Quechua. With terraced ruins beside a waterfall, it’s a picturesque spot for a rest and perhaps a meal.

Inti Punku Sun Gate - After lunch, the journey continues to the Sun Gate, known as Inti Punku in Quechua. From this iconic viewpoint, travelers will enjoy their first panoramic view of Machu Picchu, dramatically framed by the surrounding mountains and valleys. Witnessing the Lost City of the Incas emerge after a day of trekking is a truly unforgettable and rewarding experience.

Aguas Calientes - As the day concludes, travelers will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes, nestled at the base of Machu Picchu. Named for its natural hot springs, this charming town offers a well-deserved place to rest for the night. After checking into accommodations, visitors may choose to relax in the soothing thermal waters, perfect for easing tired muscles and reflecting on the day’s incredible journey.

With the most challenging part of the trail behind, tomorrow promises something extraordinary: an in-depth exploration of the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu to Cusco

Machu Picchu - On the second day in Aguas Calientes, travelers will rise early and take a bus up the mountain to Machu Picchu. Surrounded by lush green peaks and centuries-old stone architecture, they will explore the rich history and enduring mysteries of the Lost City of the Incas with the guidance of a professional guide.

Ollantaytambo - After returning to Aguas Calientes for lunch and perhaps some souvenir shopping, travelers will board the train back to Ollantaytambo, enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the Sacred Valley one last time as the journey concludes.

Cusco - Finally, travelers will return to Cusco by bus or private transportation, concluding their unforgettable two-day Inca adventure with lasting memories of the majestic Machu Picchu.
