From Surf to Saddle: My Ocho Rios Adventure
Drawn by the promise of diverse adventures, I embarked on the Ocho Rios Full-Day Adventure, trading my surfboard for a day of ATV rides, horseback excursions, and waterfall climbs. Here’s how it went.
A Day of Thrills and Tranquility in Ocho Rios
As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s call, but this time, I decided to trade my surfboard for a day of diverse adventures in Ocho Rios. The allure of the Ocho Rios Adventure was too tempting to resist, promising a blend of adrenaline-pumping activities and serene moments in nature.
The day began with an exhilarating ATV safari, where the group was split into two, allowing the more experienced riders to unleash their inner speed demons on the beach. The wind in my hair and the roar of the engine beneath me was a thrilling reminder of the freedom I cherish in my island life. The guides were fantastic, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and safe while encouraging us to push our limits. The beach ride was a highlight, offering stunning views of the Caribbean Sea that I usually only get from my surfboard.
Horseback Riding with a Twist
Next up was the horseback ride, and I was lucky enough to be paired with Tarzan, a guide whose reputation preceded him. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the area made the ride not just a journey through beautiful landscapes but an educational experience as well. We trotted through lush trails before reaching the beach, where the real magic happened. Riding a horse through the surf was a surreal experience, blending my love for the ocean with the thrill of horseback riding. Tarzan’s stories and humor added a personal touch, making this part of the adventure unforgettable.
After the ride, we stopped for lunch at a local spot that served up authentic Jamaican flavors. The jerk chicken was divine, and the atmosphere was relaxed, allowing us to recharge before the next leg of our adventure.
Conquering Dunn’s River Falls and Ziplining
The afternoon was dedicated to the iconic Dunn’s River Falls. Our guide, Leroy Stuart, was a master of the falls, offering us a choice between the ‘easy way’ and the ‘fun way’ to climb. Naturally, I opted for the fun way, which included some creative challenges that tested my balance and agility. Leroy’s expertise and encouragement made the climb both challenging and enjoyable, and he knew all the best spots for capturing those perfect photos.
The zipline course, though shorter than expected, provided a unique perspective of the falls and the surrounding jungle. Soaring through the treetops was a thrilling way to end the day, and the Indiana-Jones style bridges added an extra layer of excitement. The combination of activities offered a perfect balance of thrill and relaxation, leaving me with a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Jamaica.
Reflecting on the day’s adventures, I realized how much I enjoyed stepping out of my usual routine and embracing new experiences. The Ocho Rios Adventure was a perfect blend of excitement and tranquility, and I can’t wait to share more of these island escapades with you all. Until next time, keep chasing those waves and adventures!
