Great ride on the Dunes!! - This was an all-around great experience with Sunbuggy! We made the reservation for three people to ride the 250 cc Honda ATVs, the morning and were riding that afternoon. The rental process was very smooth with us arriving an hour before writing, signing some waiver forms, watching a brief video, and being fitted for helmets. The helmets were clean and in good condition. They didn’t take us by a truck shuttle down the Oceana Beach to where the ATVs are located. The ATVs were great! Start it up quickly shifted smoothly and were very fast. Oceana is an amazing place to ride and you can really become one with the dunes in the ocean and it was just magical. I will definitely rent from them on my next trip to Oceana/Pizmo beach.

fun time riding dunes - Im a couple of weekends late to this but here we go So I am giving Sun Buggy 4 stars instead of 5, though with a few proper tweaks to their check in process they'd get a 5 first, a huge shout out to zack that saved us fixing a broken belt, and stuck in a deep bowl. The customer service was great, both times he got to us under 5 minutes, so thats a huge kudos to SB. we had a lot of fun. but, as I said the check in process was terribly unorganized and chaos, and added a bunch of stress before we even got out to the dunes. I know they were very busy and short staffed, but, as a business with many years doing this, I think there is a way to fix (Im a former process engineer, so improving systems is my background) Ill first point out the worst part, getting your helmut. one part of the confusion is that you have 2 tables to go to, one for 'check in' and a second for your gear. two, there are customers everywhere so that added to the confusion. Solution, better signage and stantions to "control the line". you stand in front of the gear trailer waiting, and people are cutting in, and its VERY stressful. there are technically two lines but you cant tell. Stantions would help. Also, make it clear on your website to show up to the check in table first, then youll get your gear. they have a couple of signs. and the ladies did their best, but was still confusing. Next, they should make their custormers with reservations be priority, hence to reward your customer for taking the time to reserve, as in this case, walk ups take up more time, cut in line, and your client who reserved (with the caveat that there are NO refunds) should get some sort of added assistance, maybe a seperate line for them, especially getting gear. Next, the hold up at the second gear window of having to run credit cards and DL's. again, they need more help here instead of the two guys (though I know the lazy employees were not coming in, to collect their covid checks) but again, having a better organization, along with a better approach to serve the reserved clients, that would improve the customer sign in experience. we were told to show up an hour early, our reservation was for two, we arrived at 1, and didnt get in our dune buggy till 245, that, in a service type industry, is not good. BUT, we were on vacation, our attitude is to always just go with the flow, and out on the dunes the crew more than made up for the check in shenanigans, and we really did have fun. thanks SB and we will return again.

Rip Off for Services Not Rendered - Scam of a business don't rent in advance from them not sure if they do walk ups but don't by all means give these scam artist any online reservations. They think you spending more time and money to come back out for a fulfillment on not being able to offer said Services due to weather forced Beach Closures. They will receive a negative report to the better business bureau. To Think I supported the dune initiative in favor of these con artist.

Knowingly stole more than $500 from us. Knew dunes were closed yet took money with no refunds. - This business is taking unfair advantage of customers at their Pismo Beach location. We went online and paid more than $500 for 2 dune buggy’s on the morning of April 5th, and got a phone call at 2:30 saying to contact them. We were already on the way to our 3pm appointment with them and when we arrived the facility was locked down with all equipment put away and behind a chain link fence. The woman on site came to the fence and told us the Dunes were closed, that we should have received a phone call, and that while they would issue a gift certificate, no refunds were possible. Seeing that we were 20 feet from the park warden’s station we asked what was going on and he informed us the dunes had been CLOSED FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS ALREADY. This business knew full well that they were unlikely to be able to deliver on services they were selling. I called their office in Las Vegas and was told by a woman that they had literally just decided to post a notice on the website about the dunes being closed. Whether or not this business discloses “no refunds” which they do, taking money from people when they know darn well they won’t be able to fulfill their end as scheduled and reserved is just terrible business. The kids were very disappointed, it wasted hours of our day when we could have gone to Hearst Castle instead, and we are out over $500 because we will never visit again and a gift certificate is useless to us….

STAY AWAY!! Disorganized, poor business practices, horrible experience. - STAY AWAY!! SCAM!! We should have listened to the reviews before we went to this place. There are plenty of other cases like this one. This is pattern that shows a company with poor management and business ethics. This is pretty much a scam disguised as a business. Here's my horrible experience. 1- Reserved a two seat Prowler XP for 2 hrs rental 4 days in advance. 2- Arrived at the location 75 min before my start time. 3- Reviewed all the safety videos for my chosen vehicle ahead of time. 4- After a bit of chaotic check-in, we were directed to go the beach to wait for a shuttle. 5- Arrived at the drop-off location 10 minutes before our start time. 6- 25 minutes later (now 15 min into our reserved time) we were informed our vehicle was not available and we were offered a "better and more comfortable" UTV Wolverine (not our preferred choice and same price as our original pick). 7- We were told we were "lucky" as we would not need to get the $1,500 deposit hold for that "better" vehicle. 8- We were rushed into the vehicle and told to go. No time for inspections or anything. 9- The map and instructions are very difficult to follow and when we tried to ask questions, we were dismissed by the staff. They seems to be always in such a hurry. 10- We started our ride trying to follow the instructions and ended up in an area filled with vehicles but very dangerous for novices. 11- We promptly got stuck in a sand hole 3 minutes after we departed. 12- We called for help and were instructed to give our coordinates via a website. We were just told to wait with no ETA. 13- 20 min later nobody had showed up, so we called again. We were told to wait some more as we were 3rd in line. 14- Finally someone from the staff showed up on an ATV and informed us that we were in a "dangerous area but it was very easy to get sucked in to turn in" due to the heavy activity in the area. Nobody had informed us about this. 15- After several attempts to get the vehicle unstuck, the staff radioed someone to bring a new vehicle. 16- More time had passed and another staff showed up in a beat up buggy used by the team (unlikely used for rentals) to look at the stuck UTV. He looked at the situation and asked for a truck to tow the stuck vehicle. 17- After more than 45 min into our rental, we were told to take the staff vehicle and go (likely not the replacement vehicle we were told). The buggy was rusted, pedals too far and very poor suspension. 18- After we found ourselves in right area, it was impossible to enjoy the ride as the poor suspension meant the ride was extremely rough. After 15 min we decided to head back to the drop-off area. 19- When we arrived, the chaos continued, as there was nobody to greet us or look at the vehicle. 20- As we were walking back to the very hot and uncomfortable shuttle, someone called us to see what contract name the vehicle was under. 21- After locating ours, we asked if everything was fine regarding the vehicles and the staff said everything was in order. 22- I then got a notification from my CC that a $1,500 pending charge was added to my account. I promptly went back and inquired about it. The staff told me it was just the deposit for the Wolverine (even though I was not supposed to be charged that because of the last minute vehicle change) and the hold will be cleared at midnight. 23- So now I had a hold for $100 for a vehicle I didn't get and $1,500 for one I didn't want. 24- I went back to the checkin area and inquired again and they told me not to worry. 25- The next day the hold became a $1,500 charge for a 3 min ride (in addition to the $336 rental). When I called to inquire they claimed it was for "damages" to the Wolverine. No explanation, no proof of damage, no logic for such charge for an off-road vehicle that got stuck in the sand. 26- When we inquired about it, they said to contact the "corporate office" which doesn't have any contact information apart from an email ([email protected]). Needless to say, no reply from that email address. 27- At the end, we paid for a horrible experience. We expected two hours of fun but got 1:30 min of hell with actual 33 min of painful ride. Plus, we are being charged $1,500 for some undisclosed/unproven damages. In summary: - Horrible experience - Disorganized and chaotic - Damages scam TLDR: This place is a scam. They rush you (even though they demand you arrive with plenty of time), they force you into unwanted situations and then want to charge you $1,500 for damages with not proof. STAY AWAY!!!!!!
