Would do again and again, one of the best tours and tour guides - It was an absolutely amazing hike and tour through the enchanting mountains! We had Diogo as a guide; he was the best tour guide my friend and I ever had. He was very informative about the history of Oaxaca and knew so much about various plants and vegetation along the trail. The trail was easy for those that hike a lot and probably the perfect challenge for beginners! The breakfast and lunch were at local eateries and were some of the best meals we had on the trip. Would recommend to anyone and everyone looking for a local adventure!

Glorious Day in Ixtepeji - The wild flowers were exceptional, the forest truely enchanting! So nice to be in the mountains and breath the rich fruity air of the sierra! Our guide Diego was amazing, thoughtful, considerate and full of interesting local information and stories. He paced us according to our abilities, after all, the higher elevation definately reduces your aerobic capacity. We enjoyed our breaks and the spectacular scenery from the mountains.

Magical Forest Experience - My husband and I went on a hike with coyote adventures and had such a great experience. Our guides Armando and Diego were so knowledgeable and passionate. We learned about the plants, food, the land, oaxancan culture and more! The hike itself was beautiful - about seven miles of easy to moderate terrain. I would love to return to Oaxaca and do another tour with our guides who felt more like friends in the end.

Enchanted Forest - I booked the Enchanted Forest hike in Ixtepeji with Coyote. It was great! Our guide Shia was excellent. She educated us on the flora and fauna as we walked. We learnt a lot about how Coyote is working to protect the environment and the livelihood of the people. It is very important to me to use guides who are truly dedicated to leaving no footprint. Coyote walks the talk. It's not a difficult hike, but you do climb to around 9000 ft. Shia was great at letting us find our pace and take breaks when we needed them. The view was so worth it. I would have loved to do more with Coyote, they have so many great adventures on offer. Next time for sure. Thanks Coyote!!

Experiencing the nature of Oaxaca with a fun guide - Our guide, Armando, did a wonderful job leading this 3 hour hike. The clients were myself and my partner, another couple, and one other guy; all of us were between 30 and 45 years old. Hike was 5.5 miles and 1500ft of elevation gain, and we were evenly matched for pace. Armando pointed out interesting plants, fungi, insects, and aspects of the landscape throughout the hike. He shared about the history of the various peoples of Oaxaca and his relationship to them as someone who grew up in Oaxaca de Juarez. It was fun, informative, and decent exercise. It might be nice to have seen one more cultural aspect of the area beyond the two food stops, but overall we were very pleased with the experience. Next time we're in Oaxaca we might look into the Hierve el agua or climbing trips offered by Coyote Aventuras. Thank you Armando and team for a great day!

Great experience hiking in the forest (be sure to know your skill level though!). - Did a hike in the Ixtepeji forest with them. Overall a great experience for me. Beautiful scenery, guide was friendly and explained a lot about plants on the way. I would caution about the difficulty on the way down though - while I had no problem, my girlfriend who was sick and couldn't come, would have definitely struggled with the steep descent and one other person did actually get hurt while the guide was chatting away and not paying enough attention to the group. Also, I think they should take better care to bring a first aid kit and enough water.

Nice hike, mediocre company - My girlfriend and I did the Ixtapeji hike with Coyote in July. We are in our late 20s, and we were joined by three older folks (60-70), plus the guide. Overall, we enjoyed our day but were left wondering if a different company would have been a better option. What we liked: the hike itself is gorgeous loop going through mossy green forests and getting above the clouds for a minute at an overlook; our guide was friendly and warm; the guide did a good job of allowing us to go a bit ahead while she held back with the older folks who were going slower; the distance of the hike was good for a day trip. What we did not like: we learned very little about the landscape, the people, or the history; the guide showed us some encyclopedic graphics of what types of flora and fauna might be found in the forest, but otherwise the guide scarcely pointed out anything to us in the forest or related any understanding of the forest's social and historical context; the guide was at the back of the pack and did very little guiding other than telling us to turn left or right. The lack of actual guiding felt very out of place in light of the fact that the communities of the Sierra Norte have worked so hard to preserve their natural resources and their own culture -- such an interesting thing to leave unspoken or unaddressed. Overall, we left the experience feeling that we had paid to be taken to a trailhead and followed by a guide. We don't regret going because it was a lovely hike and the people (guide and other guests) were fun and enjoyable humans. But next time in Oaxaca we might think about a different tour or a different company.
