Exactly what I was looking for! - This tour was delightful and exactly what I was looking for! Guiedanni is kind, knowledgeable, and prepared. Highly recommend! Even after seeing that negative review, I took a chance and was happily surprised! I think the negative experience was not with Guiedanni and seems to be with someone else that was having an off day. I wouldn't let it deter you from booking a fun and yummy tour.

Highly recommend! - Great value for the price. Tour guide was very friendly and informative. Food seemed like an excellent representation of local cuisine. Tour was just a little under 3 hours, so it felt like the perfect length. Loved our tour.

Great intro to Oaxaca! - This tour was the perfect way to start our time in Oaxaca! Our guide was very knowledgeable, and we loved the personal stories she shared about Oaxaca's culture. This tour gave us a good understanding of all the markets in the centro area and gave us an opportunity to taste all the local delicacies, including crickets! We highly recommend this tour!

Roll of the dice for a proper guide, would not recommend - We booked the 4 hour gastronomy tour in English. There were so many things that went wrong that in a nutshell, I would not recommend rolling the dice with this tour. Below are the reasons why: First and foremost, our tour guide did not speak enough English to have a conversation or answer just about any questions we had. Our whole tour she would often repeat the few phrases she knows. “Do you have any questions?” or “What do you think?” I eventually stopped asking any questions, frustrated, because she wasn’t able to answer them. Thankfully, my boyfriend speaks Spanish as a second language and translated often for me. I had to ask her many times “In English?” She would often talk to my boyfriend in Spanish leaving him to translate. Second, it was apparent from the moment we met that she very lost and didn’t have a plan. We awkwardly stood for a few minutes in the meeting area, staring at each other, waiting for her to start the tour. We eventually started walking towards the market listed as the first stopping place. It never got any better as she took no initiative during the tour. We started at an organic market where she just kept looking around as if she had no plan and this was her first time, maybe filling in for someone(?). She went to talk to someone and was gone for a while. We sat down and when she came back we were served a drink. Before we even tried it, she asked if we wanted to go visit a stand in the market. This is when my boyfriend told her, in Spanish, that we were concerned she didn’t know what she was doing and that this was supposed to be in English. She told him in Spanish that she knew what she was doing and then asked us what we wanted to do. We expected more direction from her on what to try, where to go and expected her to tell us about the foods. I asked her about the salsas on the table and she just said it was green and tasted it and said it had chiles. Lastly, our tour lasted only 2.5 hours. We had 3 small dishes and a drink served at the first market, tasted crickets which we didn’t get to pick out, chocolate and moles at the second place and had smoked meats at the third. No tylaudas or tamales or anything that was necessarily from that region or what we had read about. It was extremely disappointing and frustrating to not have the experience we expected based off the many great reviews on this website and the description, mostly that the majority was not in English. I did contact Viator requesting a 50% refund. This would more than cover the cost of the food and the guide’s time of maybe 2 hours. I was immediately denied a refund and was told that she showed up. When I again shared the problems with communication, lack of structure and half the time of the tour, I was again declined and told that she said no because it was smoky and there were many people. Again, not reasons why I requested the partial refund. For anyone who may book this tour, she told us her name was Tonya (I think) but after the refund request I had a message from someone called ‘guidedanni2212’. After my 3rd communication with the Viator customer service I have not heard back from them. All in all, maybe I didn’t know enough about Viator but when booking these tours you could get anyone as a tour guide. This seems much like Uber where anyone can sign up to be a guide. I would be very hesitant to ever book through this site again because of this and their gross lack of customer service after a problem. Overall I felt this was a waste of our time and especially quite a bit of money.

Guide was a no-show. Ghosted request for refund. - Guide was a no-show and did not respond to texts. Contacted me two days later to say they didn't have access to their phone - when I asked for a refund, they didn't respond further.
