Setting Sail to Turtle Canyon

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the dock in Waikiki. The air was filled with the salty scent of the ocean, and the gentle breeze promised a perfect day for snorkeling. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the water, but the allure of Turtle Canyon was something I couldn’t resist. The promise of seeing Hawaiian green sea turtles up close was too tempting to pass up.

Our group was small, just as advertised, with only 16 passengers on board. This intimate setting allowed us to connect with our guides, who were not only knowledgeable but also passionate about the marine life we were about to encounter. Skeptical but hopeful, I returned to the boat, eager to see if this childhood dream would come true. As if on cue, a pod of dolphins appeared, their sleek bodies cutting through the water with grace and agility.

For ten glorious minutes, they played alongside the boat, leaping and splashing in a display of pure joy. It was a magical moment, one that left me in awe of the natural world and grateful for the opportunity to witness it firsthand.

As we made our way back to the dock, I reflected on the day’s adventures.
