The USS Arizona was hit early in the attacks, with one bomb penetrating the magazine chamber where ammunition is stored and causing a huge explosion. During the sinking of the Arizona, 1,177 sailors perished, their remains buried within the wreckage. Today, the USS Arizona Memorial is Pearl Harbor’s most visited site and continues to serve as a final resting place for sailors who survived the attack and passed away later in life.
- Battleship Missouri Memorial - Walk the deck of the last battleship the US ever built in the footprints of General MacArthur and Admiral Chester Nimitz. It was on the deck of the Missouri in 1945 that the Instrument of Surrender was signed ending WWII. - USS Oklahoma Memorial - The only land-based memorial at Pearl Harbor, the USS Oklahoma Memorial honors the more than 400 servicemen who lost their lives aboard the ship during the flurry of attacks on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. Second only in casualties to the USS Arizona on that fateful day, the Oklahoma Memorial on Ford Island. The memorial provides details about the once-mighty battleship and features 429 white markers, one for each of the crew lost during the attack on Pearl Harbor.
