First SCUBA dive... - I'm not a certified diver and wanted to experience scuba diving for the first time while visiting Oahu. After scouring the on-line adds and reviews, I booked the two dive tour with Waikiki Dive and couldn't be happier with the outcome. After a very complete safety pre-brief, the first dive with Jim was a demonstration of basic skills such as recovering a lost regulator and clearing water from the mask. After passing these skills tests, Jim took me down to the coral reef for a quick look around. As a beginner he was right with me at all times. The experience was saturating and when we surfaced I was a bit relieved; I was ready for a break. However, after about 20 minutes rest, we began our second dive and it was magical! I Highly, Highly recommend the two dive format off a boat. This second dive I was relaxed and was able completely take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the experience. We followed instructor Josh as he led the group of certified divers. Jim is so experienced and such a great instructor, I felt completely safe at all times. We saw turtles and many fish and coral and when the time came to surface, I didn't want it to end so soon. If you are looking to experience scuba diving for the first time, I would recommend you call Waikiki Dive. I'm glad I did!

Super easy fun dive - Dive was easy and fun. Great for beginners and anyone who is new or green in diving, the intro was great for anyone who has not been in the water for a while . Looking forward to seeing the wreck dive on my next trip. Everything felt safe and first world which was great.

1st time vacation to Hawaii - Saw some ocean life but not what we hoped for. Perhaps the next time we can see more. The water was a little bit rough. The five team did an very good job overall.

Exciting experience hindered by restless instructors - Being a inexperienced diver I was ecstatic to indulge in the experience knowing it would be the highlight of my excursion. I found my self juxtaposed by the seemingly detached instructors displayed by a expedited first dive leaving me with a measly understanding to diving, with obscure and confusing hand gestures and frustrating instructor the group was separated in to two groups for our second dive. Our second dive was an experience I will never forget though frighting at first a overwhelmingly joy fills the body as you see the waves above fishes glide pass all the different colors and sea life an experience I shall not forget… but alas our experience was cut short before reaching our underwater destination not making more than 3/4 the journey we return to the ship and wait for the second group to arrive waiting at least 10-20 min. The journey had been cut short and we arrived back to the shop early at least a hour and a half earlier then we expected our trip was half of what I expected I was not satisfied with the instructors I will not be booking with this shop again

Wouldn’t recommend. - Pros: Captain Yoshi was great, took safety seriously, and was very helpful. Dive Instructor/master (not sure) Josh was really friendly and enthusiastic. Saw some beautiful, massive turtles - such wonderful creatures. Cons: The rest of the experience. We were initially hesitant about doing the shallower reef dives as certified divers, but were reassured it was the best option for our level (open water certs, 10 dives over 18-months). Communication prior to booking wasn’t great and we wish we had gone with our instincts and booked a different dive. Here’s why: We were on the 9:45am reef dive, and it was two full hours before we were on the water. Everything was tailored towards either the two uncertified divers (we had to sit for a 20-minute discover scuba video), or a group that were there to snorkel and observe conservation efforts. The two hours were unbelievably disorganised, there was no communication, we didn’t know what was going on, didn’t know who our instructor was going to be, weren’t told anyone’s names, where we were going, how it would be structured, or what the hold up was. After the two hours of waiting around and the 10 minute drive to the dock, we eventually made it out on the water. Once there, we were introduced to our scuba instructor (sadly not Josh!), who took us out for about half an hour. Our tanks were over half full at the end of the dive. During our first dive, the instructor sped past two huge turtles without pausing for us - we would have liked to have had some time to pause and observe them chilling on the reef (they really are incredible!) without losing our instructor in the process! Having spent all that time sitting around at the dive shop waiting for some communication, we were pretty disappointed during our surface interval to find out we weren’t moving and we would just dive the same area again. Prior to the second dive, I noticed my second tank was less than half full and the o-ring had blown out, and when I brought this up with my instructor he didn’t come over to help - thankfully Captain Yoshi came to assist me. On the second dive, I struggled to equalise going down, so paused and ascended a little - the instructor had already sped off so I was not able to alert him and entirely rectify the situation. Once again, our tanks were at least half full at the end of the dive, and we spent the last five minutes of the dive looking for a dropped weight from a different group. To be honest, it really felt like we were just there to fund the conservation expedition: we sadly didn't learn anything on the dive, our dive instructor didn’t do a debrief (we saw an eel but have no idea what kind it was), we were ignored for most of the time and are still waiting for an email with the dive details as we don’t have dive computers (information we requested as we were leaving - 5 days ago). Overall, very dissatisfied, and feel like we wasted our time and our money. This was our first time diving on O’ahu - we would not recommend this dive shop if our experience is typical. At the start of our trip we were considering also signing up for the pelagic bioluminesent dive but needless to say we changed our minds pretty quickly after this experience.
