Highlights
  • Waimea Bay - Waimea Bay is located in Haleiwa on the North Shore of O’ahu in the Hawaiian Islands at the mouth of the Waimea River. Waimea Valley extends behind Waimea Bay. Waimea means “reddish water” in Hawaiian.

During the winter months, the towering North Shore waves start here in Waimea Bay. The winter swells that roll into the famous Oahu North Shore beaches, generally top out at Waimea Beach Park, on the right-hand side of the bay.

  • North Shore - Surfing the Bay, along with Sunset Beach and the Banzai Pipeline, is considered almost a pilgrimage among many pro-surfers that fly in from all around the world to partake in the daring action. The fun generally begins when the National Weather Service issues high surf warnings for the North Shore.

Would book again for the 3rd time - I did this exact trip back in 2021 and had such a fun time, that I wanted to book it again with other family members on this trip. It was even better the second time. Captain Kevin was super amazing and put the group at ease with the massive waves. I was down for the massive waves and had fun jumping them. Saw sharks and it was the highlight of the trip.

Awesome! - Well worth it! We saw a large turtle, dolphins, whales and sharks. It was extremely winding so be prepared to get wet, all part of the fun!

AMAZING - Our crew was a group of very attentive young adults. The day was cloudy and love ocean a little agitated. The whales were shy, but they diligently searched until they found it. They also took us to see the sharks. The boat is very comfortable and I felt safe, even with the rough seas. Amazing experience. I recommend.

Amazing experience! - We had so much fun!! We did not have to go that far into the ocean when we started to see some whales! It felt surreal because they were HUGE and then our captain informed us they were only babies! The moms were sneaky! Being able to see how these beautiful animals are in their natural habitat was unforgettable. We also saw some spinner dolphins along the way and some sharks! It was definitely an amazing experience, will recommend 100% we went at 7AM tour, and got to see about 8+ whales!

Hawaiian sledding - Crew & boat ride out was a lot of fun, a Hawaiian sled ride. Saw a turtle, flying fish & stopped to feed sharks. Alas no whales (only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) but apparently to early so going again in a couple of weeks

Wild ride - but no wildlife - The description on Viator really needs to be updated. By stating there are bathrooms on board, I was lead to believe this was a bigger boat that would have normal seating (not straddling like riding a horse) and a shaded area for my 80 year old mother. The trip out was extremely rough, like a roller coaster ride, and we got pretty wet. There was also a suggestion on the Viator site that we would be going into coves in search of wildlife. I don’t think any place we went was considered a cove. We parked in front of Waimea bay for a bit, and drove by what was called bird sh rock, and then out to a place to bait sharks. The sharks, and a bird that flew by were the only wildlife we saw. If my mother weren’t with us, I prob’ly would have enjoyed the boat ride… and if the description was more accurate I would have chosen another tour for her.

Not a great experience - While we had an ok time on the trip we felt that the captain was much more focused on his agenda than on the requests and desires of the passengers. He spent a good 15-20 minutes traveling out to the shark buoy when he had been told by the passengers that we were most interested in the Humpback whales. He then spent at least 10 minutes slow walking a shark back to another boat taking time out of our tour. He also spent at least 15 minutes on the phone discussing parts for a boat motor and when he would take the boat in for repair. So in all, of the hour and a half tour about half of that was spent on sharks or boat repair, things that were not of interest to the paid passengers. So, if sharks are your thing then we would definitely recommend this tour, if you are more interested in seeing the whales then perhaps you should look elsewhere.

Horrible experience!!!!!!!!!! - We booked a whale watching tour that was canceled and turned into a shark diving tour then canceled all together. Rebooked as a shark tour thinking we still had a whale watching tour. No communication reached out via text and phone with no response. Still charged full price and never went on tour.
