Senaru to Sembalun

Mount Rinjani - At 7:00 am, following an early breakfast, the journey begins from Senaru, traveling by 4WD vehicle to Sembalun. Registration takes place at the Rinjani Trek Centre in Sembalun (1,156 m) before starting the trek. The trail initially meanders through rolling open grasslands as it ascends the mountain. Rest breaks and snacks are enjoyed at Pos 1 and Pos 2. A longer break for lunch is taken at Pos 3 (1,800 m). Post-lunch, the steep ascent to the crater rim begins. The night is spent camping at Sembalun Crater Rim (2,639 m), offering breathtaking views of the sunset, Lake Segara Anak, the summit of Mount Rinjani, and northern Lombok.

Sembalun Crater Rim to Summit

Mount Rinjani - At 2 am, a light breakfast is followed by the challenging three-hour trek to the summit (3,726 m). Arrival coincides with sunrise, the perfect time to appreciate the stunning views. Returning to the campsite on the crater rim, a hot breakfast and rest are enjoyed before descending into the crater. Lunch is taken on the shore of Lake Segara Anak (2,000 m), where camp is set up. The afternoon offers opportunities for swimming in the hot springs, fishing, exploring the lakeshore, or simply relaxing.

Lake

Mount Rinjani - After breakfast, the trek continues around the shore of Lake Segara Anak before beginning the climb out of the crater. The trail is steep and rocky, passing through dense forest. At the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641 m), a pause for lunch and rest is taken. The crater rim provides views across the lake back toward the summit and a great vantage point of Gunung Baru, the small volcanic cone within Mount Rinjani’s crater. Mount Agung in Bali and the Gili Islands are also visible from here. Camping for the night is an option, or if the wind is cold and energy levels are high, the descent can continue to a more sheltered campsite in the forest.

Senaru Crater Rim to Senaru Village

Mount Rinjani - After breakfast, the descent of the mountain continues, utilizing the rest spots of Pos 3, Pos 2, and Pos 1, with a longer break for lunch along the way. As the descent progresses, the forest becomes denser and more lush. Arrival in Senaru (601 m) is around 1 pm.
