This event is characterized by snow that softens in the daytime heat, then freezes overnight due to the drop in temperature from radiative cooling, creating a solid surface that can be traversed until dawn breaks. This magical two-hour window in the early hours of spring is reminiscent of the enchanting world depicted in Kenji Miyazawa’s fairy tale, “Yukiwari”.
