Highlights
  • Chelsea Market - Chelsea Market and the High Line are two of NYC’s best attractions! This food and history tour features incredible insights and stories as well as some delicious food and fantastic NYC views. Plus, our tour guides are truly entertaining and it’s enough food for lunch!

Did you know that although the area was originally residential, markets have existed in the district since the 1840s. People moved into tenements in the Meatpacking District in the 1820s to escape epidemics in what was then the main part of New York. In 1900, 250 slaughterhouses and packing plants filled the area; and by the 1930s, those houses produced the nation’s 3rd-largest volume of dressed meats. Five meatpacking companies still operate in the district. Boutiques and bars are more common than rump roasts these days, and the neighborhood continues to evolve almost daily.

Foods and activities on the tour include:
• Slice of Sicilian style pizza from Filaga
• VIP pastry sampler at Las Delicias Patisserie (gluten free & vegan available!)
• Doughnuttery doughnut
• Little ‘witch from Fat Witch Bakery
• Seed + Mill halva
• Zach & Zoe honey
• How hot can you go?! Guided hot sauce tasting by a hot sauce “sommelier”
• Brief shopping adventure with introduction and tote bag at Artists & Fleas
• Beer, wine or $5 sangria available (additional cost)

A perfect way to spend the day in NYC - The food selections were amazing! This tour took us to new(er) places in Manhattan that some of the seasoned New Yorkers on our trip had not seen.

Great Afternoon in NYC - What a fun afternoon! We were welcomed by our delightful and informative guide “ Chris”. He took us through Chelsea Market and we enjoyed tasting tacos, pizza and more sitting with our group. Next we went onto do some shopping and a visit toPier 57 at Hudson River Park. Great foid, drinks and company! The Highline Tour was just as awesome. Informative and fun! Take this tour- A great afternoon in NYC!

Food, history, architecture walking tour hits it out of the park. - Chris was a gem of a tour guide—knowledgeable, patient, generous, friendly. We enjoyed all of our stops, all the bites and sips, the history/background/future development, the conversations with other group members, the banter, the recommendations. Would take another tour with Like a Local any day.

Yummy Experience! - I took my husband and four twenty-something children on this tour. We all had a great time. The weather was perfect, and we enjoyed learning about the Chelsea Market and sampling some delicious food. Learning about the area along the High Line was so interesting as well! Chris was very knowlegeable, personable and did a great job as our tour guide.

A delicious journey with a fantastic guide - We had such a wonderful time on this tour! Our guide Chris made every moment memorable- he shared such a wealth of fascinating insights related to history, architecture, art, and of course cuisine! The stops we made were all so fun and yummy, and I was in awe of the wealth of knowledge he could share in terms of recommendations of other spots in NYC to visit. We can’t wait to try another tour with Like A Local!

Well-designed tour with delicious food and knowledgeable guide - Whether you're a tourist or a local, Like A Local Tour promises an enjoyable food and history journey. I joined their Chelsea Market tour and it is very well-designed. Seriously all the food we had was 10/10 delicious, like I am willing to revisit these vendors in the future. The portion is also just right — you get to try a bit of everything, while not suffering from overeating. As a NYC newbie, I wouldn't have discovered these exceptional vendors at Chelsea Market and Pier 57 if I hadn't joined their tour. Highly recommend joining their tours if you have friends or family visiting New York, so they can get a full experience of the diverse food scene. 1. Filaga Pizza We tried Puttanesca Siciliana (very puffy dough) and Margherita New York Slice (crispy and thin crust). Both are not too oily and very light. 2. Takumi Taco * Japanese beef curry rice taco really stood out to me. Juicy and tender as if you’re drinking a curry beef stew. Loved the crispy shell! 3. Joey Bats ** My friend’s favorite snack of the tour. Very authentic Pastéis de Natas, with a custardy center and cinnamon powder sprinkled on top. Served warm. 4. Seed and Mill *** My FAVORITE food in this tour. The vegan chocolate soft serve with pistachio halva and tahini drizzle totally blew my mind. The BEST pistachio soft serve I’ve had lately. Def going back to get a jar of their pistachio halva. 5. Doughnuttery Bite-sized mini doughnuts popping out fresh off the oven. Pillowy texture. Our preference: Lemon > Pumpkin Spice = Pistachio Lavender > Chai = Apple Cider 6. Nom Wah If you don’t wanna wait in line in their Chinatown location, go to their Pier 57 stall! We tried three different dumplings (chicken, shrimp and pork) and they were all very solid. Gluten-free dumpling wrapper available. 7. Local Roots We got the last batch of miso sesame chocolate chips cookies. Boba was just okay, but good news — they offer gluten-free boba. 8. Dickson's Farmstand Meats LNY special: the lucky char siu hot dog ($8.88). We also got samples at vendors like Fat Witch Bakery, Li-Lac Chocolate, Zach and Zoe Honey.

Delicious treats & great guide - Chris our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, pleasant and interesting. Every dish we tried that day was so delicious. My husband thought the Japanese taco he had (beef) was the best thing he'd ever had. Many thanks and highly recommend!

Above and Beyond! - Have to give a huge shout out to our guide who was super nice and worked so hard to be sure as a gluten-free diner, that I had a good lunch experience at the Chelsea Market. Of course there will be GF options hidden somewhere within that sprawling food court of options, but without drawing attention to my GF status, he sourced really great alternatives: some wonderful artisanal honey tastings, crispy rice-shell tacos instead of pizza, a fun bubble tea instead of a cookie, a mochi treat instead of donuts, etc. He truly wanted all guests to enjoy the tour by asking and taking input from each person on their preferences! Even going back to the stall if something wasn't just right! And we had a diverse group! It was also kismit that our fellow tourists/locals were a fun bunch and rolled with whatever came our way! Snow delayed our start to the High Line tour, but we still saw the art, learned alot and had a nice, long walk to work off the huge lunch! It was such a fun time!
