Highlights
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art - New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is a magnet for visitors, rivaling the attendance of other top-tier institutions such as the Louvre and the British Museum. Its extensive collection, which spans over 2 million items, encompasses a vast array of periods and styles, from the relics of ancient Egypt to the innovations of contemporary art. Upon entering the majestic Great Hall, you’re immediately introduced to the museum’s most significant exhibits. Journey through the Medieval Europe section before arriving at the Studiolo from the Ducal Palace. Delve into the world of medieval armaments, including armor once donned by Henry VIII.\n\nThe American wing is home to the original staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange and the iconic painting of Washington’s daring Delaware River crossing. A pantheon of European master artists such as Vermeer, Picasso, and Van Gogh is also on display, offering insights into their tumultuous yet fascinating biographies. Throughout your visit, your guide will highlight what sets this quintessential American institution apart from its venerable European peers, noting its establishment during America’s centennial infancy.\n\nTypical highlights include (subject to availability due to loans or restoration):\n\nHenry VIII’s armor, Tiffany’s Autumn landscape, the staircase from the Chicago Stock Exchange, the portrait of Madame X, an exploration of pop culture from past to present, works from the Hudson River School, ‘Washington Crossing the Delaware,’ pieces by Jan Vermeer, ‘Madonna with Child,’ works by Picasso, Seurat, Van Gogh, and others.

See Art Like an Artist - Mark was the perfect guide. An artist himself, he knows how to put the art in context so that it is accessible to anyone, without dumbing it down. It felt more like a private lesson than a tour; we were encouraged to engage with the art and share our thoughts. After the tour, we felt confident exploring the massive museum on our own with the foundation Mark had given us. Thanks for an unforgettable experience, until next time!
