Additional Information

Arguably one of the premier art institutions globally, the Metropolitan boasts a staggering collection spanning six continents and over 6,000 years, making it so extensive you could easily lose days exploring its contents. If you’re short on time, our Met Express Tour takes you through its highlights. Your two-hour journey begins when you rendezvous with your guide and a small group of a maximum of 15 participants at the Met’s entrance. The small group size guarantees personal attention, ensuring you won’t miss a word and can ask as many questions as you wish. Following a brief intro, you’ll delve into some of the museum’s most unusual and eccentric exhibits. Find a limping hippo. Discover an attire mishap from antiquity in Egypt. View some risqué Flemish dinnerware (provided the audience is of suitable age, naturally). You’ll also gain insights into the humorous and compelling stories behind more renowned works and learn about the thrilling lives of artists like Monet and Van Gogh. And don’t forget the butt-themed treasure hunt; brace yourself for this one.

  • The Met is fully wheelchair accessible. However, if you cannot climb the stairs of the central entrance to reach the meeting point, there is a ground level entrance one block south, near the intersection of 81st street and 5th avenue. Tell the desk you need to use the elevator to meet a group in the main lobby (at the pharaoh statue), which will then secure your entrance ticket. They will provide you with a temporary pass and help direct you upstairs.
  • The Temple of Dendur is occasionally rented out for private events with no advance notice provided. While usually this occurs in the evening times, closures may impact this tour. In such cases, other works from the Egyptian collection will be substituted. Even more rarely, the Met may rent out select rooms for private events in which the same rule of substitution applies.
  • Walks complies with all local government regulations. You may need to wear a mask or provide proof of vaccination to enter certain venues. Please refer to New York government guidelines for the most up to date information.

Enlightening Experience: A Guided Tour at the Met - The guided tour was fantastic! When I visited the Met two years ago, I just wandered around aimlessly, missing out on all the highlights and stories behind the exhibits. This time, thanks to the guided tour, I got to experience the top pieces in the museum with fascinating narratives attached. My only wish is that they included some sections on Asia. This tour focused solely on Egypt, the USA, and Europe.

JUST GREAT! A MUST-DO in NYC! I want to go back and do it all over again. - After visiting The Met dozens of times, this was my very first guided tour. IT WAS SO GREAT! WHY HAVE I NOT DONE THIS BEFORE?? The 2-hour tour I took guided us through many highlights that crossed over several different periods in both art and historical significance. Our guide, (Kristine?) was very friendly, (obviously) extremely knowledgeable and was delightful company. I was traveling solo, and she made me feel less isolated in the group by being so personable. The Met is truly a marvel. A dazzling gem in the heart of the greatest city in the world! My personal experience with this tour group, and particularly our guide, made that gem glisten even brighter! After the tour, I retraced our footsteps and enjoyed photographing and exploring even more collections on my own. Our 2-hour tour did not touch on the Greek & Roman collection. It's likely to be included on the 3-hour tour. Either way, don't miss it. And do not hesitate booking a tour with WALKS. And with the admission price to the MET included, it's an NYC bargain. Just one piece of advice: And this is just me, being me. When I arrived in the Great Hall at the museum, I was lost as to where to find my tour group meet-up. NOTE: As you enter the museum, different tour companies congregate, collect and check-in their groups in the area to the right of the Info booth. Remember to ask for, or look for signs saying "WALKS" tour. SO GREAT!

Perfect for limited time at the Met - I love art museums so it was not a surprise that I loved this tour. The highlights selected were a perfect mix of types and eras. My ten year old also enjoyed it thanks to a scavenger hunt created by the tour guide. I highly recommend this tour if you have limited time to spend at the Met.

Enriching, educational, got so much more out of it than if we had gone on our own. Highly recommend! - Kevin was our guide-FABULOUS!! Very knowledgeable, great presentation, good connection to noticing what the group wanted to focus on. We did a deep dive into the Egyptian room, and the connection to the Greek and Roman history and pieces later.
