From being a town of only 30, 000 inhabitants during the Revolution, the populace of New York City exploded to exceed a million in eight decades later. The emergence of the Brooklyn Bridge, which held the record for the world’s longest suspension bridge at that time, marked the city’s spectacular debut at the global level. After this monumental bridge emerged from the riverbed and towered high above the rapidly expanding city. Just a short three years hence, the Statue of Liberty would stand tall in the harbor, and the advent of steel frames would enable buildings to aim skywards. However, the genesis of it all was the Brooklyn Bridge.
