Itinerary
  • St Roch Cemetery No. 1 ~ Campo Santo - Now is your chance to tour one of the least visited but most popular cemeteries in New Orleans.

St. Roch Cemetery, founded in 1874, was established by the Rev. Peter Leonard Thevis. According to legend, during the deadly outbreak of yellow fever in 1868, Rev. Thevis prayed to St. Roch, the Patron Saint of Good Health, and vowed to build a chapel to the Saint if his congregation was spared. When no one died, a shrine and a chapel were built.

St. Roch Cemetery is also unique in that it has the Stations of the Cross depicted with statuary carved in Italy by the workshop of Italian sculptor Enrico Arrighini. An annual procession of the 14 stations is still celebrated every year on Good Friday.

There must be a minimum of 4 guests signed up to take this tour 12 hours before the departure time/date or the tour will be canceled. If it is cancelled you will receive an email. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Such a special place...Leslie was the cherry on top! - Incredible experience...it was exactly what we hoped for when we booked this tour. We are glad we chose this tour and wished we could have taken Leslie with us on a tour of all the cemeteries. Thank you for giving us so much insight! We loved that our money goes toward upkeep of the cemetery. Keep up the great work!

This is the Company to Use! - It was a cemetery I always wanted to make it over to but finally made the call when they offered a tour again [I enjoy getting the details just walking around doesn't offer]. I love that the small ticket price goes to preserving the amazing cemeteries around New Orleans. Our tour guide was personable, funny, and passionate about being there despite the heat. This was my second Save Our Cemeteries event I attend and I haven't been disappointed!

St. Roch Cemetery Tour - We had an excellent tour of St. Roch Cemetery in the St. Roch neighborhood. Our guide was Dana Criswell. She is very knowledgeable, has an engaging personality, and lives in the neighborhood. We were fortunate to have a visit inside the chapel located in St. Roch No. 1 which has had some very nice restoration work. After the tour we had a nice lunch at St. Roch Market on St. Claude. Save Our Cemeteries is an organization that everyone who cares about the history and culture of the city should support.

Amazing Tour - This was an amazing tour and worth every penny. Dana C. was the best tour guide I’ve had in a while. She was extremely knowledgeable, sociable, and engaging. Her excitement kept everyone focused and having a good time. Highly recommend and would take a different tour of theirs again.
