Sunday morning stroll among the tombs of Metairie Cemetary - On May 12, 2024, I had the pleasure of taking the guided tour of Metairie Cemetary. Visiting this cemetary had long been on my list of places to visit on New Orleans, and I'm so glad I did. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. Glenn was our guide, a lifelong New Orleanian who shared fascinating stories of some of the cemetary's residents as well the history of the cemetary itself. I can't recommend this tour enough if you're looking to get more from a visit to the cemetary than just a stroll among the tombs.

Highly recommend - Glenn is the guide for the Sunday 10:00 am Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery tour, which I would highly recommend. He is knowledgeable, passionate, willing to answer and further explain any questions you may have, and surprisingly not from New Jersey. Also, please do not let his cane fool you, I am pretty sure he only uses it as a statement piece because he will walk circles around you.

Highly recommend this thoughtful and engaging tour of Metairie! - Glenn is an exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly guide who led us on a deep dive of the history of New Orleans via the beautiful Metairie Cemetery! This tour is an amazing way to get to know the city and its cast of characters, and learn how social, political, and economic trends play out over time. As a native of the city, Glenn helps visitors connect the dots between those buried at Metairie and the New Orleans we see today. Save our Cemeteries is also a very cool non-profit dedicated to preserving and promoting New Orleans' cemeteries, so this is worth the time whether it's your first visit or you are a seasoned pro. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

A Fascinating Stroll Through New Orleans History - During a recent visit to New Orleans, my wife and I took a morning away from the craziness of the French Quarter for a morning tour of Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery with Save Our Cemeteries. On the nearly two-hour tour, we learned about the history of burial practices in New Orleans, tomb architecture, and the role of cemeteries in society. But with so many famous (and more than a few infamous) folks buried there, we also got a broader picture of New Orleans history, culture, and politics. Our tour guide, Glenn, was the best! A day before the tour he sent a text with detailed instructions on where to meet in the sprawling cemetery—important if, like us, you are getting dropped off by an Uber or a taxi. He was very personable and possessed a seemingly bottomless reservoir of knowledge on a huge range of topics. He even gave out bottles of water at the end of the tour. We highly recommend this tour. It’s a great way to get a different perspective on New Orleans, its past, its present, and its people.
