This particular Voodoo tour in New Orleans stands out as the only one led by High Priestesses of Louisiana Plantation Vodou. Eshé/Mary J. can trace her ancestry in Louisiana back to the late 1700s, while Malika/Osheyo Amanzi traces her lineage back to the coast of Virginia and the Carolinas, the homeland of the Gullah-Geechee who practice unique West African-based religions.

Authentic historical narrative of voodoo - Loved Eshé’s friendly and personalization of a more historical narrative of voodoo. Would have loved to potentially visit sites out of Louis Armstrong park that are still authentic or meanful to the history of voodoo in NOLA, but this didn’t distract from the wonderful tour!! A bonus Eshé was great about making the tour comfortable and answering questions.

Magical and Authentic - Most of the draw to come to NOLA lies in it's historical and cinematic ties to Voodoo, especially for fans of AHS Coven. So naturally I went on a tour with my daughter led by the High Priestess Malika who actually practices plantation voodoo and has ancestral ties to the tradition, unlike many of the so called "neo voodoo shops" here that appropriate the practice. Malika's genuine and expansive wisdom, and love for Spirit, was deeply appreciated. She debunked many myths peddled by those phonies in the Quarter - and in Hollywood - and shared personal experiences that could only be informed by being a High Priestess herself. We loved her sense of humor too! If you have been wondering what's the REAL story behind the magic of Voodoo in the Crescent City, please consider booking a tour. You will not regret it :)

Enjoyed that tour guide,... - Enjoyed that tour guide, Eshé, based the tour on her personal practice of voduo. I liked also that she shared a lot of history about the religion and its ties to the city.

Best case scenario vodou your - I was worried when we booked the tour that it would play into the hokey voodoo stereotypes, but Malika truly is an expert in every sense of the word. My friends and I learned so much; I’m so grateful for the wealth of knowledge we were able to tap into from taking this tour. Great for history buffs and for people who are interested in spirituality of all forms. I loved learning about pockets of the diaspora and their different practices as well as the history surrounding New Orleans plantain vodou. Best tour I could’ve asked for, hands down.

Excellent cultural history - don't miss this tour! - Priestess Eshé provided a wonderful, educational, and eye opening history of New Orleans vodou and vodou culture. She was incredibly knowledgeable and encouraging of all questions; she not only gave personal anecdotes and experiences but gave plenty of insights as to how the history has been changed and demonized to fit a colonial narrative. I HIGHLY recommend this tour!

Must-do Vodou tour! - We’re so glad we booked this tour, and not a tour based upon hyped Hollywood version of vodou. Eshé was an amazing tour guide, sharing the history of peoples in New Orleans, the origin and meaning of vodou in the area, and the untrue stereotypes that, unfortunately, so many still believe and profit upon. We truly appreciated her openness of personal stories and answering of all questions . Our teenage son was even intrigued by the tour, which says a lot if video games or videos aren’t involved!
