Highlights
  • Oak Alley Plantation - Your 1.5 hour Oak Alley experience will include a docent guided tour of the plantation home, a self guided tour of the grounds and many photo opportunities along the way. Save room for a Mint Julep or refreshment from the snack bar.
  • Cajun Pride Swamp Tours - This privately owned wildlife refuge ensures that you won’t encounter any other boats during your peaceful journey into the swamp. Local Cajun captains share personal tales of their own swamp explorations and fascinating information on the plants and wildlife you’ll encounter. The primitive beauty of moss draped cypress tress and abundant wildlife guarantees some amazing pictures! Enjoy a beverage and snack from the open air pavilion.
  • Lake Pontchartrain - Although called a lake, this is actually a large lagoon and brackish estuary fed by fresh water rivers and connected to the Gulf of Mexico. Covering 630 square miles (1600 km2) it is one of the largest wetlands in North America.
  • I-10 Bonnet Carré Spillway Bridge - View the spillway, a flood control operation in the Lower Mississippi west of New Orleans. The spillway, when open, allows floodwaters from the Mississippi River to flow into Lake Pontchartrain and thence into the Gulf of Mexico.

Exceptional knowledge by host Dionne to explain history and provide education. - One of the best parts of the trip was the information and knowledge that Dionne provided. Her background and family history was a large contribution to the overall experience and pleasure of the excursion. The Swamp Boat Ride was exciting with lots of wildlife, and the feeding of alligators off of the boat was exciting. They are BIG. Oak Alley was a wonderful history of a plantation and grandeur of the day.

Interesting + fun day - We had a great time! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and we saw a bunch of alligators. I don’t think as much time is needed on the plantation but I would definitely recommend it.

Most recommendable - At the plantation a look into the past and during the swamp boat ride a close understanding of nature. Both activities explained thoroughly and with passion.

Well paced, fun and informative! - The bus ride was comfortable and the tour guide was friendly and knowledgable. He helped make the trip go by fast! The plantation was impressive and their restaurant was fast, affordable and good food. The swamp boat tour was a bit disappointing as far as "swamps" go, it was more like traveling down a river but I learned that is what they call a bayou in the south. So it wasn't their fault, it was my expectations. And the boat captain, Brandon, was extremely personable, funny, and friendly which ended up making the whole experience a win in the end. Overall, it was well paced, handled by experts at every step and was a great way to spend a day if you are in the area. I recommend it.

Overall Great - Earley our bus tour guide was knowledgeable, welcoming and comprehensive in his stories. The plantation was as expected. The swamp/bayou tour was great, although the animals did seem more 'trained' than 'wild'. Overall great experience.
