Additional Information

Encompassed by enigma, driven by compelling rhythms, and explored by the most enthralling— and potent— deities of current theology, voodoo has been captivating outsiders since its genesis in New Orleans.

Your expedition initiates on Basin Street, in close proximity to the renowned tomb deemed to hold the remains of Marie Laveau herself. Following a brief discourse on the distinctions between Haitian Voodoo, New Orleans Voodoo, Santeria, and Hoodoo, participants are guided to Congo Square, the location of countless rituals and ceremonies Laveau carried out. Proceeding from this hallowed location, you’ll navigate towards Laveau’s former residence, where she carried out her daily responsibilities of raising her children and conducted spiritual exercises with a large snake draped around her neck during evenings. Tales of zombies, epidemic history, and periodical propaganda are in store for you on Dauphine Street, where your leader will expose the realities about voodoo dolls and traditional Afro-Caribbean medicine, all considering the aspects ancestor reverence and ‘magic’ in America’s Most Haunted City.

Fantastic historic and informative tour! - This was an absolutely fabulous tour. Doug is an incredible guide; he’s very knowledgeable, clearly passionate about the subject matter, and loves New Orleans deeply. Not only is this tour fun, it also includes a ton of interesting history, and takes visitors around beautiful areas of New Orleans. Highly recommend this for anyone interesting in learning more about the history of voodo, and New Orleans on the whole!

We had our voodoo tour... - We had our voodoo tour with the 'crazy guy in the fur coat,' Doug, who was entertaining, energetic, knowledgeable and educational. He was so respectful of what New Orleans Voodoo is that we told our friends about it and they booked for a tour that very evening. We loved it!! Thank you.

Facinating true history well presented - Appreciated the effort that went into researching history for this tour. Our guide had done extensive research and written the tour. Very impressed with his efforts to place the stories in historically accurate settings, dramatize the events and add entertaining anecdotes. I'm not into witchcraft or horror, but appreciated the history and lack of focus on the "take a picture and see if you can see the ghost in that corner" crap!

A tour to set the record straight. - We did a lovely walk across the hallmarks for Voodo where either ceremonies took place (Congo square) or the the key players lived, died or got into trouble. This tour is the result of the guide setting the record of Voodo straight, especially of all the myths of Marie Laveau! The tour went by flying.

Nice Educational Intro to Voodoo! - First giving thanks to Papa Legba, Met Kalfou, and Baron Samedi, this was a very respectable and nice introduction to Voodoo history! Claire was a commendable tour guide on the subject and covered the fundamentals of the religion very well. I can tell she has done in depth study and research and more importantly I feel she's been granted the spiritual approval to deliver such information. I've been on the Haitian Vodou, Santeria, Palo Macombe path for years and her tour gave a crash course without being overwhelming or underwhelming. She was even aware and receptive of hidden knowledge not easily known in the spiritual community. As a bonus and thanks to Claire, I was able to landmark important locations for my own awareness, like one of the seven Gates to Guinee, a hidden gate located on St. Peter's and Burgundy St, which was an old underground cemetery. I also discovered the cities oldest Catholic church building, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church & International Shrine of St. Jude, which I will be visiting in the near future to view the voodoo style saints that she mentioned are inside. (This will be extra special for me since I'm just returning from a trip to Vatican City in Rome). I also appreciated her genuine interest in getting to know the individuals on the group and extended care to ensure our well being, as well as the locals, as we crossed paths. Thank you Claire for bringing healing light to dispel fears and negativity of Voodoo. Ase! Thank you (again) Hottest Hell for another great tour.

Amazing! - This tour was beyond my expectations. Doug is an EXCELLENT storyteller and made this tour himself. He clearly taught us the history of voodoo and sites in New Orleans that have significant history. He answered any and all questions. He was fun to listen to. I will definitely do another one of his tours next time I’m in NOLA.
