Additional Information

Join our foot journey around the most antique district of New Orleans, the French Quarter. Experience the ‘Vieux Carré’ from the perspective of the native Louisiana Creoles who first named it their home. Louisiana stands out amongst other U.S. states. The absorbing stories of famous Creoles (descendants from West African, Native American and European settlers) will reveal the evolution of the culture that separates Louisiana from the rest of the southern U.S.

The quest is an adventure into ancient Louisiana, the birthplace of Jazz and Zydeco, gumbo and jambalaya. Geographically, Louisiana seems like a southern American state, but culturally, it has always been the southernmost part of the Caribbean.

(Note: The tour includes a visit to the patio of an exquisite antebellum French Quarter house, and usually to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1. However, the cemetery is presently shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.)

Outstanding - Outstanding tour with Lawson--very knowledgeable but also casual and charismatic. Switched seamlessly between French and English to accommodate the Francophone family in our group. Gave us a sweeping but nuanced perspective on the history and cultural currents of New Orleans.

Best Tour of many I had in New Orleans - My guide Muriel was incredibly well informed about the history of the French Quarter and shared many, many insights you can’t get elsewhere. She was very catered to my interests and very responsive to my endless questions. She also gives many tours in French as she herself is a transplant from France. Muriel was very personable and charismatic and made the tour very worthwhile. Highly, highly recommended!

Informative historical tour - Muriel was a great your guide who knew so much history about New Orleans and how it came to be. I learnt so much on the tour such as the original definition of Creole, free people of colour and how New Orleans was different to rest of the US in that respect. Please book the tour if you want to find out the detailed history of New Orleans. As well as visit specific buildings which helps to bring the history alive.

Creole History Comes to Life in this Tour - Our family took the tour with Lawson today. It was outstanding! Lawson is extremely knowledgeable about the history of New Orleans and Creole culture, and he made the tour engaging and memorable. We learned about the city’s history of racial injustice, the lives and contributions of strong and amazing women, slaves, and freed slaves, and how the French Quarter came to be. Lawson’s tour was like a university lecture by a fascinating professor. We weren’t sure if a two-hour walking tour in 98 degree heat was a great idea, but it was totally worth it. Highly recommend this!

A deep dive into NOLA - then and now! - I just spent the last 75 minutes telling my husband all about the amazing information that was shared on this tour!! I highly highly recommend this tour!! Lawson was a knight in shining armor from the moment we began the tour when he handed us ice cold bottles of water. Throughout the tour he shared a great depth of knowledge for New Orleans and beyond, and did a marvelous job of explaining NOLA’s history from a variety of perspectives! I really appreciated how Lawson took time to explain how elements of the past influence so much of what we see today. Truly, this tour could be priced so much higher for the great quality of the information that you receive! At 5 months pregnant traveling with my 70+ year old momma, I was initially worried that we might not be able to keep up with a 2 hour long walking tour - but the pacing was totally manageable and Lawson was incredibly thoughtful about making sure we were in the shade and had places to sit if we needed to. Definitely book this tour!!
