The historian guide will narrate the tale of this once powerful and formidable family. The area established by the Tughlaqs became known as Tughlaqabad, the third city of Delhi.
The magnificent Tughlaqabad Fort was constructed in the early 14th century. Featuring rubble-filled walls and massive stone fortifications on uneven terrain, it exemplifies Tughlaq architecture.
The fort’s highest viewing platform is a citadel known as Bijay Mandal.
Within the Tughlaqabad Fort lies the tomb of Ghiyas-ud-Din Tughlaq, reputed to be the first structure to combine sandstone and marble. The tomb also contains the graves of his wife and successor, Mohammed Bin Tughlaq. This architectural marvel features a dome atop an octagonal base adorned with marble and slate.
- Adilabad - Next to the Tughlaqabad Fort is the lesser-known Adilabad Fort, often overshadowed by the grandeur of Tughlaqabad. Built by Mohammed Bin Tughlaq, Adilabad Fort was designed to protect the inhabitants of the new city of Jahanpanah. Legends suggest that a curse led the emperor to abandon Tughlaqabad Fort and the city of Jahanpanah. Visitors will explore these intriguing tales with their knowledgeable guide.
After the tour, guests will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before being returned to their hotel in the New Delhi city center.
