- Birla Mandir Temple (Lakshmi Narayan) - Begin your day with a convenient hotel pick-up for a tour of Delhi’s spiritual landmarks.
The journey starts with a visit to the Lakshmi Narayan temple, also known as Birla Mandir. This temple is the first in a series constructed across India by the renowned Birla family, known for their industrial and philanthropic contributions. Dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of Wealth) and Lord Narayan (the Preserver), the temple is adorned in red and gold, featuring beautiful gardens and fountains. It attracts many devotees, especially during the Janmashtami and Diwali festivals.
- Gurudwara Bangla Sahib - Continue to the impressive Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, located in the heart of New Delhi. Originally a bungalow owned by Maharaja Jai Singh of Jaipur, it was transformed into a gurdwara to honor Guru Harkrishan, the eighth Sikh Guru, who resided there during his time in Delhi. During a smallpox and cholera outbreak, Guru Harkrishan cared for the sick from this location, eventually succumbing to the illness himself. The Gurdwara features a sacred pool, believed by Sikhs to have healing properties, and is constructed from white marble with a gold-plated dome visible from afar.
- Friday Mosque (Jama Masjid) - Next, journey to Old Delhi to explore Jama Masjid, one of India’s largest mosques and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, it was completed in 1656 at a cost of one million rupees. The mosque is crafted from red sandstone and features three gates and four towers.
- St. James’ Church - Following Jama Masjid, proceed to St. James’ Church, an Anglican Church established in 1836 by Colonel James Skinner. It served as a place of worship for British Viceroys for over a century and played a significant role during the 1857 Mutiny against the British. Seen as a symbol of British authority in Delhi, it was targeted by Indian rebel forces. The church’s chaplain, Reverend Jennings, was captured and killed at the Red Fort.
Enjoy a lunch break (at your own expense) at a local restaurant.
- Swaminarayan Akshardham - Post-lunch, visit the Akshardham temple, the world’s largest temple complex. Constructed in just five years by 11,000 dedicated artisans, it highlights India’s architectural diversity and cultural heritage. The main temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan, and the complex includes three large exhibition halls showcasing 10,000 years of heritage. A captivating fountain show at sunset illustrates the stages of birth, life, and death.
The tour concludes with a visit to the stunning Lotus Temple, one of the seven Baha’i temples worldwide. Built from white marble and shaped like a lotus, it features nine pools that glisten in natural light, offering a serene space for reflection and meditation amidst the city’s lively atmosphere.
At the end of the tour, you will be returned to your hotel.
