- s.d.m.c primary school - This is a unique tour that offers insight into the daily lives of a Dilliwala (a person from Delhi). We believe that one of the most important things when you travel to a new place, is to understand the culture and systems of a place, and this tours helps you do exactly that. We will take you around the Sanjay Colony slum, which has a population of about 60,000 people. During the tour, you will visit a temple where you will understand what a significant role faith plays in people’s lives. You will also learn about the daily challenges faced by the locals, such as access to water. On the other hand, you will also see how education, electricity and hygiene systems flourish in these tight, resource constrained areas. You will ultimately understand how significant a close-knit community can be. Our guides are locals, so you can ask them as many questions you like and hear their personal experiences. We do this tour in an entirely respectful way and hence do not allow photography during the tour. The best part is, that 50% of the profits from Delhi by Locals go towards supporting the community of the Sanjay Colony slum, through Learning by Locals, our sister non-profit organisation.

Amazing tour with Badal - The tour was perfect! Our amazing guide, Badal, was really helpful with everything and it was so interesting to learn about the life in the slum. Everyone in the school was so nice and welcoming! I would totally reccomend it!

The best guided tours in Delhi - Delhi by Locals is an amazing organisation really making a difference in their community. We’ve been on both the slum tour and evening food tour and they were the most memorable tours we’ve had. Very good, kind and knowledgeable guides and we felt very welcome and safe and it was so interesting to visit the school project and interact with the students. We highly recommend Delhi by Locals

Fantastic experience - My experience with Dehli by Locals was really fantastic. All guides were cute and very informative about what they were talking about. They were also really good at making one feel safe in such a foreign country. Pradeep that we had with us on our whole trip was also fantastic. He really made sure everyone had a really good trip and was always smiling. He also always wanted to talk to us, which was so nice. Some of my friends and I spoke with him for hours on the night train to Varanasi, although it was only meant to talk for 10 minutes. He is without a doubt the best and sweetest guide I have ever had. I highly recommend him. 😊

Anazing, eye opening unusual tour. - This was amazing, unusual, eyes opening experience, much different than typical tourist trips. Pradeep guided us through very interesting areas of Sanjay Slums and introduce us to fantastic people. Brilliant tour.

Great experience in Delhi - This was a great experience to have while in Delhi. I enjoyed visiting the colony, learning about the way the local business work and meeting the students of the NGO. Our guide was super nice and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

Stories, Smiles, and Chai — A Special Day in Sanjay Colony - English
We joined the Sanjay Colony slum tour and it was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to India. Our guide, Sukh, was exceptional—knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing the stories of the community. Her explanations were clear, engaging, and gave us a deeper understanding of daily life in the colony.
One of the highlights was visiting the local school and interacting with the children. They were so cheerful and curious, and their smiles made the visit truly special. We were touched by their eagerness to learn and the way they listened so attentively.
I also deeply appreciated the kindness and attention shown not only by Sukh, but by Pradeep as well, especially towards my son, who wasn’t feeling well due to the dust that day. Their thoughtfulness made us feel truly cared for throughout the tour.
During the tour, we stopped at a small shop for chai. It was milky, gingery, and far better than the hotel chai. I was a bit worried about my stomach, but I had no issues at all—and honestly, it was the best drink I had in India.
I regret forgetting to give a tip before leaving, and I truly apologize for that. This was an eye-opening, meaningful, and heartwarming day, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made it possible.

サンジャイ・コロニーのスラムツアーに参加しました。参加を迷っていたけど、思い切って参加してみて良かった。想像していたより全然素晴らしい体験になりました。ガイドのスクさんは知識が豊富でフレンドリー、そして地域のストーリーを熱意をもって伝えてくれました。説明はとてもわかりやすく、この地での暮らしや背景について深く知ることができました。
特に印象的だったのは、地元の学校を訪れて子どもたちと交流したことです。彼らは明るく好奇心旺盛で、笑顔が本当に素敵でした。学ぼうとする姿勢や、こちらの話を熱心に聞いてくれる様子に心を打たれました。アニメや韓国アイドルが好きな子もいて、日本の若者と変わらないなと。国や環境が違っても共通点があることに驚き、親しみを覚えました。
また、息子の体調（その日はほこりで鼻の調子が悪かった）を気にかけてくださり、安心して過ごすことができました。お気遣いいただき感謝しています。
日本から参加する方には、事前にWhatsAppをインストールすることをおすすめします。ツアー前日にツアー会社から連絡があり、やり取りがとてもスムーズです。タクシーで向かう場合、ドライバーの電話番号を伝えるとツアー会社がドライバーに連絡して、直接場所を説明してくれるので安心です。ツアーの終了時間は流動的ですが、会社とドライバーが直接連絡を取り合ってくれるので助かりました。
途中、小さな商店でチャイを飲みました。ミルク多め、生姜多めでホテルのチャイよりずっと美味しかった。お腹が心配でしたが結果的に全く問題ありませんでした。暑いチャイを飲んでゆっくり過ごしたあの時間も素晴らしい思い出です。
出発前にチップを渡し忘れてしまったことが心残りですが、それでもこの日はとても有意義で素晴らしい体験となりました。スクさん、プラディープさん、そして子どもたち、本当にありがとうございました！

A Must-Do in Delhi: Thoughtful, Authentic, and Community-Driven Tours - I first connected with Delhi by Locals in 2019, where I met Pradeep, the founder, who curated an unforgettable experience for us—from a day trip to the Taj Mahal in Agra to walking through Old Delhi and exploring the Sanjay Colony. The visit to the Colony was particularly moving, as it gave us the chance to see the daily life of locals and the inspiring impact of Learning by Locals, the NGO Pradeep founded. What makes this organization so special is that 50% of the profits go toward supporting education and opportunities for youth in the community.
Even more powerful was learning that many of the tour guides are former students of the NGO. These young guides, trained through Learning by Locals, lead the tours with insight, passion, and a genuine connection to the places they share. It’s not just a business—it’s a mission to uplift and empower.
When I returned to India in 2025, I reached out again, and just like before, Pradeep and his team made our experience truly memorable. If you’re looking for a way to explore Delhi that is authentic, meaningful, and community-driven, I can’t recommend Delhi by Locals highly enough.

Perfect tour of Northern India - We actually booked a custom tour of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. From first contact, Pradeep was extremely helpful with the organisation of our tour with our requirements at the forefront. Although perhaps not the cheapest it was only once we were on the tour we realised the reason. Booking this not only got an insight into the real Delhi we experienced many aspects of the city that just wouldn't be on any normal itinerary. The work Delhi By Locals does for the good of the community is really humbling to witness and our small part in helping it happen is more rewarding than words can explain. Our tours of Agra and Jaipur were also organised with exceptional guides who were fluent in English and extremely knowledgeable. Throughout our 11 days we felt looked after and secure. Our car was well maintained and our driver made us feel completely safe in even the craziest of Indian traffic. His knowledge of the routes even outside of Delhi was quite incredible. We booked with Delhi By Locals because of a recommendation of a friend who used the company 6 years ago. I'm delighted to say the passing time has not dulled the service or personal touch and cannot recommend Delhi By Locals highly enough.
