The building features European-style architecture and is famous for its Durbar Hall, adorned with some of the world’s grandest chandeliers and a huge carpet that took nearly 12 years to weave. The palace rooms have been converted into a museum, showcasing furniture, paintings, sculptures, decorative art, textiles, and more collected by the royal family.

In the 18th century, Jhansi became the capital of the Maratha province and later the Princely State of Jhansi from 1804 to 1853 CE. The fort was the residence of the great Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, who fought the British East India Company during the 1857 War of Independence. This fort witnessed the fierce battle led by Rani Lakshmi Bai, who fought valiantly for two weeks during the mutiny.

Orchha Fort - Upon reaching Orchha, visit this small town.

Orchha is a city adorned with artistically beautiful palaces and temples built by its Bundela rulers in the 16th and 17th centuries, retaining much of its pristine perfection. After some relaxation, go sightseeing at Orchha Fort Complex. Visit Jehangir Mahal, built in the 17th century by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo to commemorate Emperor Jehangir’s visit to Orchha. Dashashwamegh Ghat - In the evening, witness the Ganga Aarti held every evening at Dashashwamedh Ghat. It starts around 6:45 PM, after sunset, and lasts 45 minutes. People gather around the ghat about 90 minutes before the beautiful procession begins. Arrive an hour early, find a spot on the stairs, or hire a boat to watch the aarti. Although an hour early may seem long, the preparations and crowd make the time fly by!

The funeral pyre at this ghat burns 24/7, with around 100 cremations daily.

Banaras Hindu University - Visit Banaras Hindu University, a central part of Varanasi’s identity since its inception in 1916. The well-respected public university is home to over 25,000 students, making it one of Asia’s largest residential universities.
