This is the location where Mahatma Gandhi spent the final 144 days of his life and was tragically assassinated on January 30, 1948. The 12-bedroom house was constructed in 1928 by Ghanshyamdas Birla. Gandhi Smriti is among the largest museums dedicated to Gandhi and features a library with approximately 60,000 books, along with bookshops offering Gandhi’s works. It also houses around 6,000 original photographs of Gandhi.
- Indian Air Force Museum - Situated at the Palam Air Force Station in Delhi, India, the Indian Air Force Museum is dedicated to the Indian Air Force. It was the sole museum of its kind in India until the Naval Aviation Museum in Goa opened in 1998 and the HAL Aerospace Museum in Bangalore in 2001.
- Sulabh International Museum of Toilets - Managed by Sulabh International, the Sulabh International Museum of Toilets in Delhi is devoted to the global history of sanitation and toilets. Time magazine has recognized it as one of the most unusual museums among the “10 museums around the world that are anything but mundane.” The museum boasts a unique collection of facts, images, and artifacts illustrating the historical evolution of toilets from 2500 BC to the present. It offers a chronological overview of technological advancements, social customs related to toilets, toilet etiquette, sanitary conditions, and legislative efforts across different eras.
- Indian War Memorial Museum - The National War Memorial, constructed by the Government of India near India Gate, New Delhi, honors the Indian Armed Forces. Spanning 40 acres, the memorial is built around the existing chhatri near India Gate. Additionally, a National War Museum is planned for the adjacent Princess Park area. Princess Park, a 14-acre site north of India Gate, features barrack-like accommodations built during World War II. Since 1947, it has served as family housing for mid-level armed forces officers stationed at the Service Headquarters in New Delhi.
- Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum - Once the residence of the former Prime Minister of India, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum has been transformed into a museum. Visitors can explore a collection of rare photographs from the Nationalist movement, personal moments of the Nehru-Gandhi family, and Indira Gandhi’s childhood. The museum also includes photographs, newspaper articles, and clippings related to Indira Gandhi’s assassination, as well as clippings from Rajeev Gandhi’s funeral pyres, awards, and personal items such as clothes, pens, and bags belonging to Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. Indira Gandhi’s book collection and gifts she received from various individuals are also preserved.
