It is notable for the first use of Pietra Dura (a floral design made of semi-precious stones). This historical mausoleum was built for Itimad-ud-Daulah (formerly Mir Gheyas Beg), a minister in the Mughal court and father of Nur Jahan, the wife of Jahangir. He was later appointed as a minister and trusted treasurer in Akbar’s court. Nur Jahan constructed this mausoleum as a tribute to him after his passing.
