India Gate - While in Delhi, visit India Gate, originally known as the All India War Memorial. This monument honors the 82,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War and the Third Anglo-Afghan War from 1914 to 1919.

Humayun’s Tomb - The second Mughal emperor, Humayun, passed away in 1556, and his widow, Hamida Banu Begam, also known as Haji Begam, began constructing his tomb in 1569, fourteen years after his death. It is the first distinct example of Mughal architecture, influenced by Persian design. Humayun, during his exile, learned Persian architectural principles and likely planned the tomb, although no records confirm this.

Lotus Temple - The House of Worship emphasizes the significance of prayer in individual and community life. The name “Chandni Chowk” or “Moonlight Square” comes from a pool at the center that reflected the moon.

Jaisalmer Fort - Known as Sonar Quila (Golden Fort), Jaisalmer Fort blends seamlessly with the golden desert sands. The setting sun casts a magical glow, enhancing its majestic style crafted by local artisans.

Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli - Built in the 19th century by two architect brothers, Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli showcases a beautiful blend of symmetrical construction. It features miniature-style paintings and yellow sandstone carvings of tuskers.

Kothari’s Patwon Ki Haveli - Among the largest and most intricately carved havelis in Jaisalmer, this five-story structure stands proudly in a narrow street. While some of its early glory has faded, a few paintings and mirror work art remain on the interior walls.

Bada Bagh - Located about 6 kilometers north of Jaisalmer, Bada Bagh, or Barabagh (literally Big Garden), houses the royal cenotaphs of the Maharajas of Jaisalmer, including Jai Singh II.

Jaisalmer to Udaipur and Udaipur Local Sightseeing

City Palace of Udaipur - Built alongside the founding of Udaipur by Maharana Udai Singh II and his successors over 400 years, the City Palace is a significant historical site. This architectural marvel, perched on a hill, features courtyards, pavilions, terraces, corridors, rooms, and hanging gardens. The main entrance, “Tripolia,” has eight marble porticos, where the Maharanas were weighed in gold, which was then distributed among the people. The suraj gokhada, or balcony of the sun, is where the Suryanshi Maharanas of Mewar presented themselves to the people during troubled times to restore confidence.

Fateh Sagar Lake - This charming lake, surrounded by hills and woodlands, lies north of Lake Pichola. An artificial lake, it is connected to Lake Pichola by a canal and features Nehru Island and the Udaipur Solar Observatory.

Sahelion Ki Bari - Created by Maharana Sangram Singh II as a garden for women, Saheliyon-ki-Bari, or the Garden of the Maidens, is a popular tourist spot. It includes a small museum, marble elephants, fountains, kiosks, and a lotus pool.

Jagdish Temple - An example of Indo-Aryan architecture, the Jagdish Temple was built in 1651 and remains one of Udaipur’s most famous temples. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is an architectural marvel with carved pillars, graceful ceilings, and painted walls. This three-storied temple was constructed by Maharana Jagat Singh I.
