Nearby, the vast Mughal-era Red Fort now houses a museum complex, and the 17th-century Jama Masjid is a large red-sandstone mosque with towering minarets.

Fatehpur Sikri
The Panch Mahal, meaning ‘Five Level Palace’, was commissioned by Akbar. This structure stands close to the Zenana quarters (Harem), suggesting it was used for entertainment and relaxation. It is one of the most important buildings in Fatehpur Sikri, featuring design elements of a Buddhist Temple. The structure is entirely columnar, consisting of four stories of decreasing size arranged asymmetrically on the ground floor, which contains 84 columns. These columns, originally with jaali (screens) between them, support the entire structure. These screens once provided purdah (cover) to queens and princesses on the top terraces, enjoying the cool breeze and splendid views of Sikri fortifications and the town nestled at the foot of the ridge.
