All Aboard the One Love Bus!

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can add a little spice to our family adventures. So, when I heard about the One Love Bus in Negril, Jamaica, I knew I had to hop on board and see what all the fuss was about. With my husband and two kids in tow, we set off on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, ready to explore the vibrant local bar scene of Negril’s West End.

Our adventure began with Lenbert, our charismatic guide, picking us up right on time. As we joined other eager travelers, the excitement was palpable. Our first stop was Mi Yard, a charming spot open 24 hours with a laid-back vibe. While the live music wasn’t playing in the afternoon, we enjoyed the cool breeze and a refreshing Red Stripe in hand. The kids were thrilled to find out they had Wi-Fi, which kept them entertained while we soaked in the atmosphere.

Discovering Hidden Gems

Next, we crossed the street to Swordfish, where the views from the outside deck were nothing short of spectacular. The kids were fascinated by the ocean’s vastness, and my husband and I couldn’t help but dream of returning when the place was more lively. Our third stop, C&D Country Bar, was a delightful surprise. With its “10 Square Feet of Texas” theme, the bar was adorned with country music memorabilia, and the tunes had us tapping our feet. The staff was incredibly friendly, making us feel right at home.

The No Limit Bar was our fourth stop, where we were greeted by a friendly parrot in the backyard. The kids were over the moon, and we spent a few minutes chatting with the locals, who were as warm as the Jamaican sun. PeeWee’s, our next destination, offered breathtaking cliffside views overlooking the Blue Castle. The outside tiki bar was a hit with the whole family, and we enjoyed a few cold drinks while taking in the stunning scenery.

Sunset Magic and New Friends

Our penultimate stop was Bella Donna’s, a bar set up in a yard with a stage for live music. Though the music wasn’t playing during our visit, the owner assured us that the nights were filled with melodies. We felt so welcomed by our hostess, and the kids loved the relaxed, open-air setting.

Finally, we arrived at Sir D’s Lookout/Love Nest just in time for the sunset. The view was nothing short of magical, and the locals we met were full of stories and laughter. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for this unforgettable experience.
