Tanzania’s southern circuit is home to national parks and game reserves that are often regarded as hidden gems of genuine African wilderness. These vast parks are renowned for having some of the highest concentrations of wildlife on the continent, showcasing an impressive variety of animals. Among the wildlife are roan antelopes, lions, sable antelopes, large herds of elephants, African wild dogs (also known as Cape hunting dogs), and a wide array of vibrant bird species.

Day 1: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park

Guests will be collected from their hotel or the ferry and transported to the SGR station for a train journey to the Morogoro region, lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Upon arrival, a driver-guide will escort them to Mikumi National Park for a late-morning game drive until lunch. After lunch, there will be time to relax before continuing with an afternoon to evening game drive. Dinner and an overnight stay will be at Camp Bastian Mikumi.

Day 2: Mikumi National Park to Ruaha National Park

Guests will be picked up from the hotel at 6:30 am. After breakfast, they will drive to Ruaha National Park, a journey of approximately five hours. Lunch will be provided upon arrival. The afternoon will be spent on a game drive, which will continue into the evening. The Great Ruaha River, the park’s namesake, is vital for supporting its diverse wildlife. Although Ruaha is one of Tanzania’s largest national parks with a rich variety of animals, it remains one of the least crowded destinations, offering a remote and exclusive safari experience.

Dinner and an overnight stay will be at Tanapa Ruaha Bandas.

Day 3: Game Drive in Ruaha National Park

On this day, guests will depart early at 6:30 am for a sunrise game drive, enjoying breakfast in the bush. After breakfast, the game drive will continue, exploring various locations throughout the park in search of wildlife. Keep an eye out for predators such as lions, cheetahs, and large packs of wild dogs, along with numerous other animals, until the lunch break.

A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the park, providing time to rest. After lunch, the game drive will resume until the evening. As guests travel along the Great Ruaha River, they can expect to see a variety of animals, including buffalo, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, impalas, warthogs, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, greater and lesser kudu, sable and roan antelopes, as well as different species of birds, plants, and reptiles.

After a full day of exploration, guests will return to their lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Ruaha Hilltop Lodge to Dar es Salaam

After breakfast, guests will pack their luggage and begin a 6.5-hour drive to Morogoro town for the train. The train departs at either 4:00 pm or 7:00 pm for Dar es Salaam.

Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, guests will be picked up and taken to their hotel or the airport for their flight to Zanzibar or back home.
