• Lake Naivasha - Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, is a mesmerizing destination celebrated for its serene beauty and ecological importance. Spanning approximately 139 square kilometers, the lake is situated at an elevation of about 1,884 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest lakes in the Rift Valley. Its name, derived from the Maasai word Enaiwasha meaning “rough water,” reflects the occasional turbulence caused by strong afternoon winds.

Encircled by lush greenery and bordered with papyrus and acacia woodlands, Lake Naivasha provides a haven for wildlife and bird species. It is a birdwatcher’s dream, hosting over 400 avian species, including fish eagles, herons, pelicans, and cormorants. The lake also supports a vibrant population of hippos, often seen lounging along its shores or submerged in its tranquil waters.

Hells Gate National Park in Kenya is renowned for being the habitat of the exceptionally rare lammergeyer vultures. The park also hosts a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalos, and a few antelopes. Within Hells Gate, visitors can explore the Hells Gate canyon, featuring two striking red cliffs with volcanic formations known as the Central Tower and Fischer’s Tower. The Central Tower is a smaller gorge extending southward to Naivasha, where a trail leads to hot springs. Here, some rocks can become hot enough to cause burns if caution is not exercised. In contrast to the hot springs, the park also features two extinct volcanoes, Hobley’s and Olkaria, along with obsidian formations from cooled molten lava, sparking the imagination about their active past.
