Highlights
  • Hell’s Gate National Park - Begin with 7am pickup in Nairobi, then travel to Lake Naivasha and Hell’s Gate National Park, with a break to get views of the Great Rift Valley from a scenic overlook along the way. Upon arriving in the park at roughly 9am, begin a 2-hour, guided bike tour: watch for herds of Thompson’s gazelle, eland, zebra, and hartebeest as you ride. Keep an eye on the sky throughout the tour, as Hell’s Gate National Park is home to more than 100 species of birds, including Verreaux’s eagles, augur buzzards, vulture, and swifts.

Continue on foot into the park’s distinctive gorges, where narrow passageways and caves are sunk into sedimentary rock. After a 1-hour walk, stop by a local Maasai community to learn about traditional life and customs in the Great Rift Valley, then head to Naivasha Fisherman’s camp for lunch (own expense).

  • Lake Naivasha - For an additional fee of $20 per person, you can explore Lake Naivasha wildlife on a 1-hour boat tour. Spot the hippos that linger just at the surface of the water, and see some of the diverse birdlife; African fish eagles, lesser flamingos, African spoonbill, and little grebe are all common here. At 4pm, begin the return trip to Nairobi, and finish the day with drop-off in Nairobi at roughly 6pm.

Wonderful nature! - Had a great time! Frank was a great guide and would answer any questions I had. The driver Johnson was also very friendly and made sure we got there and back safely. In hells gate I saw lots of animals and beautiful nature. Make sure you don't miss the boat ride, it was an incredible experience as well.

Great day at Hell’s Gate - We had a great day at Hells Gand the nearby Lake with Festus acting as the perfect guide and friend. He accommodated all of our requests, like stopping a a roadshow souvenir shop, and was fun to be with all day. He is knowledgeable and friendly, and I would highly recommend him for your travel plans. Driving in Nairobi seems chaotic so having his expertise was a life saver. Paul Danes

Absolutely Amazing! - This was an absolutely amazing experience! Our guides were fantastic! The views were indescribable - from the bike ride, to the lookout point above the gorge, to the walk down into and through the gorge. Everything was amazing! As an overweight asthmatic, it was very strenuous at times, but I got through it with no training or real hiking experience. I would absolutely do this again! Lake Naivasha was great too! Our boat guide was incredibly knowledgeable. We saw a ton of different birds and got up close to a bunch of hippos!

Beautiful day - This tour was wonderful. From the biking to the hiking and the boat! You see everything from all angles. Saw many animals. The hike was rigorous for us out of shape Americans but we survived. Thank you to our tour guides for being so wonderful!

Get active, amazing views, great guides, perfect choice for a day trip out of Nairobi! - If, like me, you were trapped in a windowless conference room in a mall hotel in the middle of Nairobi for four days, and if, like me, you weren't sure if you were going to get a free day so you didn't plan anything, and if, like me, you crave an active, physical adventure (not just sitting in a vehicle looking at animals from behind glass), then please book this tour! I really had no idea how amazing it was going to be - I booked the day before and the tour guide was extremely responsive. The hotel pickup makes everything so easy, and the trip itself was super cool. It doesn't take long to get to Hells Gate, and the early morning drive is nice (against traffic!) and my guides (Frank and Calvin) were kind, knowledgeable, and funny. The bikes for the Hell's Gate are a little old, but they are safe and they get you around. The bikeride, however, is absolutely stunning. Wild cliff faces, expansive pastures full of gazelle, zebra, giraffes. Its an easy ride to a nice hike by the gorge and a fun challenge back (a little uphill - take it easy and you'll be fine!). Highly recommend the hat - the sun gets intense towards the end of the trip. Lake Navaisha is a beautiful way to rest after your bikeride - super chill, interesting birds and animals and landscape and a cool breeze. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough - especially for a kind-of-last-minute decision. There are so many options for day trips out of Nairobi - this one is a really great option that gets your body moving, gives you a ton of landscapes to appreciate, and gives you a day with some awesome staff.

Solid day trip - This is a solid tour. All organisation and communication was great. I was hoping there might be others on the tour, but it was just me and the two drivers. The car was also quite small, so felt the bumps! Pickup was 7am, took about 1.5 hrs to get to Hell's Gate and Naivasha. Stopped at gift shop en route. Watch out for the sales tactics, know the value of items beforehand, and don't accept foreign currency/favour if offered, as fake. Cycling was great fun. Some of the bikes could be in a better condition. Lots of opportunities to see Zebra, wilderbeast, gazelle, giraffe etc. Shame they closed the gorge, but we got close enough to sample the hot springs. The lunch place buffet was 3,000KS, so ask for the menu if you want smaller/cheaper. As usual, lots of salad and carbs, main was chicken and beef. The boat trip was probably the best part of the day. Watching the African Eagle dive for dish and seeing Hippos enjoying their day. Johnson and Frank were very friendly and communicative, and knew their stuff. I'd happily book again.
