Highlights
  • Bomas of Kenya - The tour starts by picking you from your Nairobi Hotel 1PM. Experience the rich culture of Kenya’s 42 different ethnic groups as they live on their day-to-day basis. This is clearly demonstrated through traditional dances, music, song, and folklore. There is a splendid arena where acrobatic shows are performed. The Bomas of Kenya put on displays of traditional dancers and spread over many acres, it also has a wonderful display of mud huts and traditional Kenyan homesteads. The Bomas of Kenya is the ideal place to bring energetic children as they can freely run in and out of the traditional houses & mud huts, climb up ladders and generally have a wonderfully active time. These traditional houses are set out in clusters according to the region. The homes are grouped with the first wife’s hut, second wife’s hut, granary etc and you can see where the livestock are kept and the enormous variety between the huts. The next stop is carnivore restaurant - Spend your evening dining at the Carnivore Restaurant. Upon your arrival, you will simply take your seat on the Zebra striped chair so the movable feast can begin. First comes the soup of the day before a sizzling cast-iron plate is placed in front of you, along with a plate of home baked brown bread and butter. An army of carvers wearing zebra striped aprons and straw hats then move from table to table carrying the Masai swords laden with different prime meats deliberately carving unlimited amounts onto the sizzling, cast iron plates in front you. Meats that will be available include leg of beef, ostrich, leg of lamb, pork spare ribs, crocodile, chicken wings, pork sausages, beef sausages, and more. Accompanying the meat feast is a wide selection of salads and vegetable side dishes, and also a variety of sauces stacked on to a 2-tiered revolving tray in the center of the table. Stop the circulation of meats to your table by lowering the white paper flag that is on top of the central tray. Next, enjoy dessert and coffee to top off your meal. The driver will return you to your accommodations at the end of your meal.

Good substitute of tours. - This tour to Bomas had to be cancelled due to a nation election so they suggested a substitution of a tour to a giraffe breeding facility. I was met by a knowledgeable local guide who took me to several other venues with dinner at a local restaurant serving barbecued meats. Good substitute.

Great Day Spent in Nairobi - We did the Gracepatt Tour that included the Giraffe Center, Bomas of Kenya and dinner at the Carnivore restaurant. It was a great day made even better by our wonderful guide, Francis Mgei. Francis was waiting for us when we emerged from the airport. First we went to the Giraffe Center and afterwards, took us to a nice shopping area/restaurant for a light snack (excellent food and service). Then we went to the Bomas of Kenya where we first toured the different traditional homes erected by people of various tribes, including that of President Obama's father. We then went to a show of traditional dancing, drumming, singing, comedy and acrobatics in that was fun, high energy and included audience participation. We ended the day with diner at Carnivore and drop off at the airport. This tour and tour guide exceeded my expectations. The price was extremely fair, especially in comparison to what other tour companies quoted (one quoted us a high price and when I did not respond positively, wanted to "negotiate" a lower rate). Their office support staff is also excellent--I always received timely, helpful replies to any questions on my part. Go with Gracepatt - you won't regret it.

OK experience, but a bit pricy - The Bomas show performance is pretty good. Dancers are good, musician are great, acrobat is the best! Unfortunately venue lighting is terrible, no stage light, only plain daylight Mercury light, one of the bulb flickers. You can go to bomas yourself and entrance fee is $10. Dinner is overrated. Meat quality is soso. Drink not included in your price. Again you can go there yourself for $36 + drinks and tips. Driver is friendly. And on time. But I think the tour is overpriced at $110, consider you can arrange it your self only around $65 with Uber.
