A female guide, easily identifiable by her blue tartan trousers and a sign with your name, will greet you off the shuttle bus.
- Culloden Battlefield - The first destination is Culloden Battlefield. Here, guests will walk around the site, learning about the tragic events of April 16, 1746. The impact of this battle is still felt in the Highlands, and the guide will passionately explain its lasting cultural significance. Visitors will be taken to a viewpoint to see where the troops once stood, and shown the makeshift hospital cottage, grave markers, and other notable sites. There will be free time to absorb the atmosphere of this poignant historical location, with restrooms available for convenience.
- Clava Cairns - The next stop is the ancient burial site of Clava Cairns. Guests can marvel at these Bronze Age cairns and touch the standing stones while the guide explains their origins from 4000 years ago. Learn about the Victorian influence on Clava’s landscape and imagine its appearance in 2000 BC. Walk in the footsteps of ancient Scottish cultures and explore the mysteries they left behind.
- Cawdor Castle - Before lunch, the tour visits the renowned Cawdor Castle, near Nairn in the Scottish Highlands. This romantic late 14th-century castle is famously linked to Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Inside, discover richly furnished rooms, rare tapestries, and treasured family heirlooms. Outside, enjoy the beautifully maintained gardens, woodland trails, and serene Highland scenery. Guests will have 1.5 hours to explore the castle and grounds, take photos, and enjoy this historic estate at their own pace.
- Inverness - A local tour guide will provide a brief walking tour of Inverness city center, known locally as Inversnecky, highlighting historical sites, architecture, and lesser-known local stories. Visit the oldest pub, a site where Jacobite soldiers were executed post-Culloden, and enjoy a view of the newly renovated castle. Guests will have free time to enjoy a coffee or lunch at a recommended spot, ensuring a relaxed experience without feeling rushed.
- Loch Ness - The tour continues to the East Coast of Loch Ness, stopping at the picturesque Dores Beach for a close encounter with Loch Ness and its breathtaking views. With luck, guests might even spot the famous Loch Ness Monster! Learn about the guide’s mother’s viral video of what she believes to be the Loch Ness Monster. Meet the “Loch Ness Monster Hunter,” who has resided on the beach since the early 90s. Enjoy a Gaelic toast with the group and guide before returning to Invergordon and the cruise.
