Additional Information

We’ll embark on a journey exploring the historic remains of Tulum, an old fortified Mayan city, precariously sited on a cliff facing the Caribbean Sea. Tulum, being among the last Mayan cities to be established in the region, served as a significant trading seaport. The city was deserted in the 16th century, long after the Spanish started their occupation in Mexico. Following that, we will head to the Suytun cenote in Yucatan, a natural swimming hole. To conclude our trip on a high note, we’ll venture into the Ahua park to admire sculptures symbolizing the linkage with nature. The tour starts from downtown Yucatan, with the journey to Suytun promising hours of travel.

Worst Tour I've Ever Taken! - I hate to sound so harsh, but there's really no way to sugarcoat this. First off, I will start by saying, you can book the same tour for almost half the price at one of the tour offices in town. That being said, our driver was punctual and entertaining, and the cenote was really beautiful and interesting, which is the only reason this tour isn't getting one star. Because everything else was pretty much downhill. Firstly, our "tour" was conducted only in Spanish. Luckily, I know enough to where I was at least able to understand the most important parts, and our driver did try to communicate a little, but with the language barrier, we were pretty much two peas in a pot on this "tour". And the "tour", was really just a roundtrip ride. Me and another passenger thought the hotel stop to see the statue for 100 pesos, would include swimming in the Caribbean. This didn't happened. That whole area was quite depressing actually. Nothing but hotels and restaurants, with no free access to the beach, or even a glimpse of it. When we arrived at the archaeological site, we were unable to purchase tickets on our own with credit card, then were told we can't even bring water into the site because it was in a plastic bottle, and it's about a 10 minute walk just to get to the ruins, and it was very hot! To top it all off, we were given Julian, the worst guide in all of Mexico, who cared more about us looking at his pictures than letting us take our own. We were rushed through the site and provided only the most basic information, while being constantly scolded for making picture stops and being reminded that we will have 20 minutes for pictures at the end. The "designated picture spot" was the section overlooking the sea, where literally EVERYONE was crowded! I was barely able to get in some good pictures, let alone take in the scenery with my own eyes. Before we knew it, we were back on the van heading to the cenote. From my understanding, we were supposed to have lunch at the cenote, but the lunch stop wasn't there. All the nice restaurants we passed along the way, and we were taken to the worst dump! A roadside buffet in a rundown Mayan village, right before closing time. But this was nowhere as shocking as the Torta stall just across the street that we were taken to for breakfast. I don't know how they pick out the food stops, but I was in complete SHOCK, that a tour company would take their clients to eat in places like this! Especially considering, we were paying for our meals extra out of pocket. Why no mention of the restaurant at Cenote Suytun, that we had ample time to visit? Our driver said the buffet we stopped at served "traditional food". I didn't realize ancient Mayans ate noodles. All in all, the only place on this tour that was worth visiting was the cenote. Tulum would have been fine, if we'd been given more time and could walk around on our own and bring water. But the whole thing was very poorly organized. It's like our driver wanted to get out of Quintana Roo as quickly as possible. So that being said, if you just want to add another state and archaeological site to your list, then you can consider this tour. However, if you actually want to enjoy the ruins and sea, I would pass on it.
