Constructed between the 6th and 10th centuries A.D., these Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain cave temples are not only a remarkable artistic achievement but also a testament to the spirit of tolerance that characterized ancient India.
Out of the 100 cave temples in the region, only 34 are accessible to the public. The most impressive of these is the 8th-century Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), which, at 105 feet tall, is the largest rock-cut structure in the world. The cave walls are adorned with high-relief friezes and carvings illustrating scenes from Indian mythology.
After exploring the caves, guests will drive back into town and enjoy lunch (at their own expense) at a local restaurant.
- Bibi Ka Maqbara - Conclude the tour with a visit to the 17th-century Bibi Ka Maqbara (Tomb of the Lady). This white mausoleum, resembling the Taj Mahal, is the final resting place of the chief consort of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
At the end of the tour, guests will be driven to Aurangabad airport for their return flight to Mumbai (flight fare not included). Upon arrival in Mumbai, they will be dropped off at their hotel.
