Dhobi Ghat - 11:00 AM Guests arrive at Mahalaxmi Railway Station, served by the Mumbai Suburban Railways. The station is located next to the municipal dhobi ghats in Mahalakshmi, a suburb of Mumbai. Most Dabbawalas disembark at Mahalaxmi Station as many corporate offices are nearby. Here, the Dabbawalas sort the Tiffin Boxes based on area-specific markings. A brief introduction to the Dabbawalas and their precise system of coding and distributing tiffins ensures timely delivery. The Tiffins are placed on a wooden crate carrying 150 Tiffins, managed by 3-4 Dabbawalas, and delivered by bicycle in various directions. From 12:00-12:30 PM, guests will be escorted out of Mahalaxmi Station and proceed to the Open Air Laundry, known as DHOBI GHAT. A unique aspect of Mumbai, the dhobi is a traditional laundryman who collects, washes, and returns your laundry neatly pressed. The “laundries” are called “Ghats”: rows of concrete wash pens, each with its own flogging stone. Clothes are soaked in soapy water, beaten on the stones, then boiled in starch and hung to dry.

Dharavi - More than half of Mumbai’s residents live in slums to cope with the high cost of living in the mega city. “Dharavi” has become a popular location for such residents, hosting a population of at least half a million. Many attribute the fame of “Dharavi” tours to the success of the Oscar-winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire.” A local slum guide will lead you through the commercial area of the slum, where numerous small-scale cottage and recycling units operate. Recycling, especially of scrap and industrial waste, is a significant industry in Dharavi, with locals collecting materials from across the city. Discarded items are brought to small workshops for cleaning, processing, and recycling, such as transforming old aluminum cans into plastic chairs.
