Had an Amazing Time! - Having perfect weather helped make this day trip amazing. The glacier itself was stunning. I couldn't take enough pictures of the ice and surrounding mountains. Snow, Ice, and Sun! I've wanted to hike on a glacier since I learned about them in school. This trip did not disappoint. Our guides, Francesco and Martin, were not only knowledgeable and experienced with the location, but also fun. They explained interesting features of the glacier and found a great spot for us to climb. The tour included equipment, and enough instruction for first timers to successfully climb.

Worth Every Penny - Did this excursion with pick up from Reykjavík and drop off at the site. The bus stops twice each way, once for waterfall sight seeing, and again for gas station/food/restroom. Monica was our guide on the glacier. She was knowledgeable, professional, and had heaps of patience for individuals I probably wouldn’t have. She stayed very calm and collected and was sure that we walked on safe portions of the trail. At no point did I feel unsafe. If you’re not used to hiking or climbing I’d suggest Arctic Adventures Katla ice cave tour. It’s an easy walk to some stunningly beautiful glacier. This ice climbing excursion is worth it if you’re more active type. Otherwise portions of the trail might be challenging for some. This experience was simply incredible, and one I will cherish my entire life. All of the group got along well and were able to take photos/videos of each other which we then air dropped later on the bus ride back. Monica was also very willing to take photos. If you’re an adventurer active type and hesitating to take this trip book it! You will not regret. Bring layers! Double socks, gloves particularly in winter months. It’s colder on the glacier itself especially with the wind. Thank you SO much Monica for an unforgettable experience!

Fantastic experience, great guide. - Our tour guide Anna from Sweden was amazing. So knowledgeable, welcoming and a great sense of humour. Us not being the fittest or youngest in the group she was considerate and made sure we had time to work at our own pace. Much appreciated as it made it an amazing experience for us.

Amazing - Out of all the paid tours we did in Iceland, this one that I would definitely do again and would highly recommend to anyone else visiting here. The walk itself was around 4k in total and was taken at a fairly relaxed pace with plenty of stops for our excellent guide to give us bits of information about the glacier. The spot where we climbed the ice was at the highest point we reached on the glacier before we turned back. The climbing took up a decent chunk of the 4 and a half hours in total that we spent on the tour. We had a group of about 8, and our guide set up a rope above a moulin which is basically a well that water has melted a way. She lowered us down as far as we felt comfortable going and then let us climb up, which if you got to the bottom was a fair distance. It was an absolutely terrifying yet amazing experience. She’d also set up a safety line opposite the climb so that someone could clip in and take pictures of you safely. I’d climbed indoors a bit before and this helped slightly with being lowered down on a rope, it might be worthwhile going somewhere to experience that beforehand so you feel comfortable doing it on the ice, even though you’ll be in the very capable hands of your guide. It was recommended to us at the start that we’d be better off hiring some of the hire shoes they had rather than using our own hiking boots as they were stiffer and designed for climbing ice. They were 1500isk a pair and we were very glad we got them.

first time ice climbing - Went on this tour solo and was in a small group with only 3 other people. Our guide, Monica, was absolutely fantastic! It was clear her first priority was our safety, and second priority was making sure we were having fun :) Monica showed us the basics of ice climbing, and we hiked to a nice spot on the glacier to put our new skills to test. Everyone got to try 3 times going down and up the moulin. Highly recommend and Monica was amazing!

Great experience! - Firstly, we like to compliment francesco and Steve. These 2 italian guides make us feel like we are in safe hands. They are very professional, detailed and responsible. They made a wonderful team as well. You can tell Steve is very passionate of the glaciers too. They will share with us some info of the glaciers Especially the climb, this is a high risk activity, but u can see our guides are very patient n encouraging! We really enjoyed our hike n climb! Highly recommended!

Top Excursion in Iceland - This was one of the best guided day excursions we have done (and we have done many throughout the US and the world). First, we were surprised to learn that we had, as advertised, 6 full hours of time on the glacier to walk, hike, and ice climb. We expected the orientation and travel to the glacier to "count" toward the six hours, but were delighted to find out that was not the case. More to the point, Erik from Sweden and Oliver from the UK were two of the most professional and confidence-inspiring guides we've had. They were true mountaineers--but not too good to help us make the most of our experience. They were also knowledgeable about Iceland, the glaciers, and adventures in general, and did their best to keep all guests comfortable and succeed on the glacier. Truly outstanding.
